Mr. Michael “Mike” R. Kemp, 69, of Galesburg, died Monday May 23, 2016 at 4:44 p.m. at Richard Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.
He was born October 26, 1946, in Burlington, Iowa, the son of William and Mary Ellen Francis Kemp. He married Linda K. Sattler in Burlington on October 18, 1969.
Mike is survived by his wife, Linda; mother, Mary Ellen Williams of Burlington; step mother, Dorothy Jean Kemp of Chino Valley, Arizona; two sons Nathan Kemp and Erica of Galesburg and Aaron and Amanda Kemp of Avon; three brothers, William and Candi Kemp of Letts, Iowa, Patrick and Carol Kemp of Burlington, and John Kemp and Bev of Farmington, Iowa; one sister, Beckie Nelson of Burlington; two step sisters, Monica and Len Rechichar of Chino Valley and Debra and Mike Casson of Cotton Wood Arizona; five grandchildren, Ali Kemp, Michael J. Kemp, Zack Kemp, Izzy Kemp, and Abby Kemp; and two great grandchildren, Leah Kemp and Easton Judy. He was preceded in death by one sister, Debra McCann.
He graduated from Notre Dame High School in Burlington in 1964. He served two tours in Vietnam as a Navy Seabee. Mike was a conductor for Amtrak for 36 years, retiring in June 2007. He was an avid photographer, loved riding his motorcycle, traveling with his wife, and being with his grandchildren.
Cremation will be accorded. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday May 28, 2016 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Mr. Robert McCommons will present the eulogy. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Richard Owens Hospice Home or the charity of the donor’s choice.
