Colleene Shrode

Colleene Shrode, age 87, of Monmouth, Illinois; passed away at 3:50 PM on Monday, August 22, 2016 at the Monmouth Nursing Home in Monmouth, Illinois. She was born on September 1, 1928 in Monmouth, IL, the daughter of Harold W. "Buck" and Opal (Gillen) Sprout. She attended Law School, the Kirkwood School, and then graduated from Monmouth High School in 1946. She also attended Monmouth College for a time. On June 6, 1948, Colleene married Max W. Shrode at the Sprout Farm in Warren County, IL and he preceded her in death on July 1, 2015. Colleene worked at Kneps Clothing Store in Monmouth, and then at Mitchell's Soda Fountain where she met her husband Max. She then worked at Clark and McNeal Grocery Store and finally at Dog N Suds of Monmouth, for her son. She was a long-time member of the First Christian Church in Monmouth. She also was active in the affairs at Strom Center in Monmouth. Colleene was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs. Colleene is survived by her daughter, Jane (Don) Jewell of Monmouth, IL, her son, John (Barbara) Shrode of Macomb, IL, four grandchildren; Jason (Mellisa) Jewell, John (Anna) Jewell, Justin (Brenda) Jewell, Kathryn Shrode, five great-grandchildren; Jordan, Kayleigh, Quinton, Josiah, and MacKenzie Jewell, and her sisters-in-law; Margaret and Marion Shrode. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her grandson, Jeffrey Shrode. Colleene's family would like to thank the staff of Monmouth Nursing Home for the loving and compassionate care they gave.

　

A funeral service is planned for 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Her family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Monmouth Cemetery. A memorial fund is being established for either the Monmouth Nursing Home or Strom Center in Monmouth.
