Dwayne I. Morrison

Dwayne I. Morrison, 68, of Galesburg, died at 11:35 a.m. Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at home.

He was born October 22, 1947, in Canton, Illinois, the son of Clyde “Bud” and Juanita (Collins) Morrison, both of whom preceded him in death.

He was married to Sandra Vitt and then Lynnette Williams.  He then married Patty L. Porter in 2001 and she survives.  Dwayne is also survived by two sons, attorney Brian (and Rachel) Russell Vitt Morrison of Tigard, Oregon and Dr. Bradley (and Michelle) Christopher Morrison of Apple Valley, Minnesota; three beloved grandchildren, Lindsey, Maesey, and Emily Morrison; one sister, Marlene (and Phil, who was a brother by another mother) Pemble of Canton; and his wife’s three sons, Tim (and Brittany) Mason and grandchild Olivia, Josh (and Terri) Mason, and Tylor (and Katie) Mason.

He graduated from Canton High School in 1965 and from the University of Illinois with B.S. and Juris Doctorate degrees.  He practiced law first with Barash & Stoerzbach and then with Stoerzbach & Morrison in Galesburg for 33 years.  He was appointed associate judge of the Illinois Ninth Judicial Circuit on March 2, 2007, a position he held until his death.

Dwayne served in the United States Army and the United States Army Reserves, being honorably discharged with the rank of Captain.  He was a member and past president of the Galesburg Lions Club and was a recipient of the Lion of the Year, the Melvin Jones Fellow, and the William K. Richardson Distinguished Service awards.  He was also a member of the Knox County and Illinois Bar and Illinois Judges Associations and Soangetaha Country Club.

He was a huge sports fan, rooting for the St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Bears and Bulls, and the Fighting Illini.  He loved to play basketball and was a member of the Knox College NBA (noon basketball association) and truly loved playing golf.  Dwayne was blessed with a wonderful wife, children, grandchildren, and more great friends than anyone deserves.

Dwayne led a full and active life. He only regretted that he did not get more years with his wife; more time with his sons; and did not get to spoil his grandchildren to the extent it drove Brad and Michelle crazy. Plus, he couldn’t get good enough at golf to beat his wife.

Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, August 14, 2016 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel.  Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, August 15, 2016 at the chapel with Rev. Jim Ecklund officiating.  Burial will follow in East Linwood Cemetery, where Military Honors will be accorded.  Memorial contributions in Dwayne’s name may be made to Galesburg Noon Lions Club, Knox College, the Illinois Cancer Care Foundation, or a charity of the donor’s choice.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
