Marie J. Tenhaaf, age 100, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at 1:05 AM on
Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at Seminary Manor in Galesburg, Illinois. She was born
on June 2, 1916 in rural Warren County, Illinois, the daughter of Brice and Lena
Lettie (Jones) Brownlee. She was reared and educated in Monmouth and attended
school there. On January 30, 1941, Marie married Loren Chandler and he preceded
her in death on June 29, 1977. On December 9, 1979, she married Harry Tenhaaf in
Burlington, Iowa and he preceded her on April 26, 2016. Marie was a charter
member of the Galesburg Prairie China Painters where she served as president for
many years, the Monmouth YMCA, a volunteer at Community Memorial Hospital and
O.S.F. Holy Family Medical Center giving over 500 hours of her time and energy.
Marie was a former member of the Smithshire Methodist Church. She later attended
First Christian Church in Monmouth. Marie was a homemaker on the farm. Marie had
many hobbies including china painting, antiques, yard sales, and flea markets.
Most of all, she loved her family. She is survived by four sons; Richard
(Millie) Chandler of Monmouth, IL, Marshall Chandler of Berwick, IL, Dennis
(Connie) Chandler of Berwick, IL, and James (Terri) Chandler of Monmouth, IL,
her grandchildren; Courtney (Anne) Chandler, Stacy (Tonya) Chandler, Peggy
(John) Perrin, John (Jodie) Chandler, Amanda (Kevin) Chandler-Ross, Julie (Jeff)
Chandler-Emerick, and sixteen great-grandchildren. Marie is preceded in death by
her parents, sister Merle Britton, brothers; Ross Brownlee, James Brownlee,
Brice Brownlee, Jr. and one grandson, Jason Chandler.
A funeral service is planned for 11:00 AM on Friday, August 26, 2016 at
Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Her family plans to received friends from
10:00-11:00 AM prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow
the service at Warren County Memorial Park in Monmouth. Memorials are being
established for Jamieson Community Center Food Pantry or Rae's West Adult
