Barbara L. Liston

Barbara L. Liston, age 78, of Biggsville, Illinois, passed away at 12:20 AM on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at the Abingdon Care Center in Abingdon, Illinois. She was born on June 20, 1938 in Monmouth, Illinois, the daughter of Herman and Lucile (Hawk) Vestal. Barb was raised in the Biggsville area and she graduated from the Biggsville High School with the Class of 1956. On April 7, 1973, she married Russell Liston at the Biggsville United Presbyterian Church and he is surviving. Barbara began work at Country Company's in Stronghurst. She then worked for The National Bank in Monmouth, Burkett's International Dealership in Biggsville, First State Bank of Biggsville, and Craigs/Cameron International in Biggsville. Barbara was then employed as a Deputy County Treasurer in Henderson County. In the fall of 1998, she was elected as the County Treasurer of Henderson County and served in that capacity until her retirement on November 2, 2002. Barbara loved all of God's creation; trees, clouds, walking in the timber and trails with her dogs, and growing flowers in her garden. Most importantly, she loved her family and her grandchildren. Barbara's love of helping people led her to volunteer countless hours at the Roseville Nursing Home and Community Memorial Hospital in Monmouth. She also served as president of the Henderson County Republican Women. Barbara was a longtime member of the Biggsville United Presbyterian Church where she served on the Board of Trustees, Board of Deacons, Session Board, and the Ladies Aid Group. Barbara is survived by her husband of 43 years, Russell, her son, Terry (Patti) Cook of Monmouth, IL, her daughter, Diana (Mary Schuytema) Cook of Kirkwood, IL, two grandsons; Adam (Simone) Cook of Monmouth, IL and Michael (Beckie) Cook of Columbia, MO, three great-grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother, Glen (Cindy) Vestal of Oquawka, IL and one sister, Shirley (Mike) Noel of Monmouth, IL. She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Connie Sue Vestal, and brother Richard Vestal.

　

A funeral service is planned for 3:00 PM on Sunday, September 18, 2016 at the Biggsville United Presbyterian Church in Biggsville. Her family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at the Church. Interment will be in the Biggsville Community Cemetery.
