Joann Bennett, age 78 of Abingdon, died at 12:52 a.m. Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at the Care Center of Abingdon surrounded by her loving family.
She was born September 20, 1937, in Pocahontas, Arkansas, the daughter
of Guy M. and R. Wanda Hearring Ward. She married T. Joe Bennett on
April 29, 1955 in Pocahontas. He preceded her in death on March 21,
2013. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her brother,
Ronnie Ward.
Joann is survived by her children, Robin A. (Ray) Hutson of Abingdon
and Joey M. (Jackie) Bennett of Abingdon; four grandchildren, Brenda
Doud, Heather Hutson, Thomas Schisler and David Schisler; three
great-grandchildren, Ashley Dutton, Nicole Doud and Connor Patch; and
several nieces and nephews.
She grew up in the Pocahontas area and graduated from Pocahontas High
School in1955 and moved to Abingdon in 1957 with her husband. She
worked at the Blue Bell Factory in Abingdon and later retired after
working at Protexall in Galesburg. She was a founding member of the
former First General Baptist Church in Abingdon and served as the
treasurer, song leader and junior church leader. She enjoyed reading.
Her greatest times were spent with her kids and grandkids.
Graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, September 17,
2016 at the Abingdon Cemetery. Her son-in-law, Rev. Ray Hutson will
officiate. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at
the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel.
