Montgomery “Monty” Bell, 84, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 10:45 am Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville, Illinois.
He was born May 10, 1932 in Galesburg the son of John Burl and Mary
Lorayne Montgomery. He married Marilyn A. Harvey on September 29, 1951
in Rock Island, Illinois.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; his three sons, Michael M. (Julie)
Bell of Fulton, Missouri, Mark R. (Gayla) Bell of Eden Prairie,
Minnesota and David M. (Stacy) Bell of St. Charles, Illinois; eight
grandchildren, Nicole (Bryan) Booth, Carli Bell, Luke (Kristen) Bell,
C.J. (Alyssia) Bell, Emily Bell, Lindsay Bell, Spencer Bell and Jamie
(Chris) Dahl and six great grandchildren, Christian, Kiley, Leigha,
William, Avia and Jace. He is preceded in death by his parents, his
brother, Jimmy Bell, his sister-in-law, Marj Bell, his sister, Cindy
Bell and a great granddaughter, Eden Bell.
Monty served in the Naval Reserves for 8 years.
He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1951 and later from Carl
Sandburg College with a degree in commercial heating and air. Monty had
worked for Admiral Manufacturing in the air conditioning lab for 13
years, he then worked for Galesburg Sheet Metal. He retired from
Burlington Northern Railroad after 20 years as a Carman. Monty enjoyed
working in his large garden. He loved woodworking, fishing and camping.
He was a scroll worker and had served as a Boy Scout leader. He was a
member of the Church of Christ.
Graveside services are scheduled for 10:00 am Monday September 12, 2016
in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. There will be no visitation. Memorials may
be made to the Church of Christ. Online condolences may be made at

arrangements for the family.
