Russell W. "R.C." Calkins

Russell W. "R.C." Calkins, age 57, of Oquawka, Illinois, passed away at 00:05 AM on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington, Iowa. He was born on December 28, 1958 in Galesburg, Illinois, the son of Eli W. and Deanna R. (Williamson) Calkins III. Russell attended elementary school in Wataga, IL. and graduated from Galesburg High School. On June 6, 1998, he married Alice L. Olson in Oquawka, IL and she is surviving. Russell worked for 30 years for the City of Galesburg where he was a supervisor at the Water Department. He had also worked for the Wataga Water Department and the Oquawka Water Department. Russell loved to hunt, go fishing, ride his Harley Davidson motorcycle, and raise German Shorthair Pointers. He was a handyman; able to fix and repair just about anything. Russell is survived by his wife Alice of Oquawka, IL, his parents, two sons; Jacob (Rachel) Calkins of Springbay, IL and Christopher (Kelsey) Calkins of Panama City, FL, one sister, Jeanne (Dean) Blust of Monmouth, IL, and one brother, Tim (Vicki) Calkins of Wataga, IL. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.

A memorial service is planned for 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, Illinois. His family will receive friends from 9:30-11:00 AM prior to the service at the funeral home. Cremation is being accorded.
