Margaret Elizabeth “Peggy” McSwain

Margaret Elizabeth “Peggy” McSwain, 78, of Galesburg, died at 2:56 p.m. Monday, November 14, 2016 at her home.

She was born October 14, 1938 in Montgomery, Alabama, the daughter of James David and Willie Malloy Sankey Dean. She married J. Earl McSwain on October 28, 1962 in Montgomery. He preceded her in death on July 11, 2002.

Peggy is survived by her daughter, Theresa (and Kevin) McSwain Oller of Victoria, Illinois; one brother, Bobby (and Ann) Dean of rural Montgomery; two sisters; Dorothy Dean Deason of Commerce, Georgia and Nancy (and Wiley) Dean Cutts of Montgomery; and two grandchildren, Jack and Nathan Oller. She is preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Leslie Dean McSwain in 1977 and Joseph Daniel McSwain on November 8, 2011; and three brothers, Jack, David and Billy Dean.

Peggy had worked as a secretary for Ocē in Charleston, Illinois for over 20 years. She graduated from Ramer High School in Hope Hull, Alabama in 1958. Peggy was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, where she was part of the women’s bible study group. She enjoyed reading and gardening. She also was a YMCA Silver Sneaker. Peggy’s grandsons, Jack and Nathan, were her pride and joy. She enjoyed supporting them in their band activities.

Private family graveside services are scheduled for Friday, November 18, 2016 at East Linwood Cemetery. A Celebration of Peggy’s Life will follow at 10:30 a.m. at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Scott Wilson will officiate.
