Pastor Roy A.
Smith, 64, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 11:45
am Monday, October 31, 2016 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
He was born March 1, 1952
in Milwaukee, Wisconsin the son of LeRoy and Wenderlyn Alexander
Smith. He married Dinah Israel on June 17, 1988 in Galesburg. She
survives.
Also surviving is his
mother, Wenderlyn Scott of Galesburg; his children, Roylondo L. Smith
of Galesburg, Yolanda A. Smith of Mansfield, Ohio, Jeremy L. (Amanda)
Smith and Mendell I. Smith both of Galesburg; his two brothers,
George and Lawrence Carter both of Galesburg and his sister, Hazel
Hodge of Peoria, Illinois and six grandchildren, Jordan, Jeremiah
Bentley, Jayden, Tyler, Trey and Corinne Smith. He is preceded in
death by his father.
Roy worked at Maytag
Corporation for 31 years, retiring in 2002. He also served as the
pastor for the Sacred Church of God since 1999. He graduated from
Galesburg High School. Roy enjoyed evangelizing, singing gospel music
and bringing people together. He loved playing the bongos and riding
his motorcycle. Roy was known for his cowboy hat that he wore.
Funeral services are
scheduled for 12 Noon Saturday, November 5, 2016 at
Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. James Ecklund will
officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00-12 Noon on Saturday at the
chapel. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery. Memorials may be
