Pauline Mary Gayman

Pauline Mary Gayman, 93, of Galesburg, IL passed away at 1:35 AM Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Seminary Manor of Galesburg. She was born July 6, 1923 on a farm near Roseville, IL the second child of Walter H. and Erma P. (Glas) Gayman.
Her education began in the two-room Chattanooga School. She graduated from Roseville High School in 1941 and later from Brown’s Business College in Galesburg. Pauline worked in various office jobs in Galesburg, IL and Des Moines, IA before moving to Chicago, where she graduated from court reporting school and worked for the head attorney in a large law firm. After learning of job openings with the State Department in Foreign Service, she went through the hiring process and moved to Washington, DC.
Pauline’s first posting was to the U.S. Mission to NATO in Paris, France. She went on to work as a secretary for the American Ambassadors in thirteen different countries in Asia, Africa and Europe. She especially enjoyed her five years in Kathmandu, Nepal because of its location in the foothills of the Himalayas. Her career gave her experiences far beyond what she ever imagined.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 sister, Margery F. Brown; 2 brothers, Charles M. and Robert L. Gayman; and 1 niece, Linda J. Brown.
She is survived by one brother, Walter J. Gayman and his son, Rick Gayman both of Miami Beach, FL; two nieces, Donna (Wayne) Skutt of Granville, IL; Nancy (Gene) Johnson of Henry, IL; one nephew, Bryan (Joseph DiGiacomo) Brown of Fennville, MI; two great nieces, one great nephew, three great great-nieces, three great great-nephews.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 AM Monday, November 7, 2016 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Raritan, IL where visitation will be one hour prior to services. Father Dominic Vitaliano will officiate. Entombment will be in the Roseville Mausoleum. Memorials may be made to the St. Pats Catholic Church or to the Beacon of Hope Hospice of Galesburg. Corman Memorial Home is in charge of arrangements.
