Charles H. Johnson 84, of Alexis, IL passed
away January 16, 2017 at 4:52 p.m. at Seminary Manor Galesburg, IL. He was born September 11, 1932, in Cave City
KY the son of Earl Frederick and Margie (Cooper) Johnson. He married Marilyn Axcell on July 2, 1955 in
North Henderson Methodist Church.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife
of 61 years Marilyn of Alexis, IL; daughters Julie Johnson (Tammy) of
Lindenhurst, IL, and Cathy (David) Loomis of Trafford AL; grandchildren Joshua
Loomis of Knoxville, TN, and Justine Loomis of Trafford, AL; siblings Delane
Johnson (Janet) of Carbon Cliff, IL, Martha Hudson (Terry) of Galesburg, IL,
and Frank Johnson (Pam) of Gardnerville, NV; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and 4
brothers.
He Graduated from Alexis High School in 1950,
graduated from Illinois Bankers Association School and Southern Illinois
University. He served in the U.S. Army
from 1953-1955. He was a dealer for CSI
Homes in Cambridge. He worked at Alexis
Bank and Farmers State Bank for over 40 years.
He was a loan officer and president for 3 years. He retired from the bank on March 1,
1998. He was on the board of directors
from 1962-2004. He owned Johnson Real
Estate Agency and was a broker since 1969.
He was a member of the North Henderson Methodist Church where he was
Board Chairman for 3 years and Lay leader.
He was a member of the Monmouth chapter of Gideons international and
treasurer from 1997-2011. He was the
treasurer of the Village of Alexis for 12 years, member of the Alexis Cemetery
Association for 25 years, member of the Alexis Cemetery Board of Directors from
1961-2012. He was a member of the Alexis
Lions Club 50 plus years and help several offices, president-3 terms, district
1H zone Chairman-2 terms and secretary-2 terms.
He served on the town board 4 years 2008-2012. He served on Carl Sandburg foundation 6
years. He was a member of the American
Legion-James Harvey Scott Post; he was a lifetime member of the Honor Guard. He was president of Warren Henderson Bankers
Federation from 1969-1970 and helped coordinate the Red Cross Blood drives in
Alexis. He enjoyed many things such as
violin, boating, camping, horses, bowling, deer hunting, trap shooting and time
at the farm. He was a very proud
grandfather.
Funeral Service will be Friday January 20,
2017, 2:00 p.m. at the Wise Family Funeral Home in Alexis, IL. Visitation will one hour prior at the Wise
Family Funeral Home Alexis, IL. Burial
will be in the Alexis Cemetery, Alexis, IL. Memorials may be left to the Alzheimer’s
