Alice
M. Thurman, 91, of Knoxville, Illinois passed away at her home
Monday, February 20, 2017 at 3:33 A.M.
Alice
was born November 11, 1925 in Delong, Illinois, the daughter of LeRoy
and Emily (Decker) Washabaugh. She graduated from Knoxville High
School with the class of 1943. Alice married Darwin “Slim”
Thurman on July 1, 1944 in Knoxville. He preceded her in death on
September 21, 1993.
Alice
was a supervisor of the paperboys for the Galesburg Register-Mail,
and worked at Galesburg Cottage Hospital in admitting and medical
records until she retired. After retirement she still volunteered for
Cottage Hospital. She has been an Elder member of the First United
Presbyterian Church since the age of four.
She
is survived by her children, Thomas A. (Cathy) Thurman of
Mechanicsville, Virginia; Darla (Kevin) Kuhner of Glendale Heights,
Illinois; 6 grandchildren, Shawn (Lynn) Murphy, Heather Murphy, Aimee
Thurman, Aaron Thurman, Trevor Kuhner, Allison Kuhner, 3
great-grandchildren, Chandler Brown, Chase Brown, Ariana Thurman,
cousin, Lyle Decker of Rock Island, Illinois, nieces and nephews,
Dave (Betsy) Spencer of Culpepper, Virginia; Carol (Mike) Rogers of
Rockford, Illinois; William (Janine) Washabaugh of Ocean Side,
California; Emily Derham of Monmouth, Illinois; Paul (Connie)
Washabaugh of Crystal Lake, Illinois; and caregiver, Tracy
Alstedt-Robbins of Rio, Illinois.
She
was preceded in death by her husband, Darwin “Slim” Thurman,
daughter, Patricia (Michael) Murphy, brothers, Mark Washabaugh, Dale
Washabaugh, Bud Washabaugh and her twin brother Alvin Washabaugh, and
sister-in-law, Betty (Floyd) Spencer.
Visitation
will be held Thursday, February 23, 2017 from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M.
at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home in Knoxville, Illinois. The
funeral service will directly follow the visitation at 2:00 P.M.
Interment will be at the Knoxville Cemetery. Rev. Milton Marquith
will be officiating the services. In lieu of flowers memorial
contributions can be left to the First United Presbyterian Church in
