Duane W. Sandberg, 89, of
Galesburg, Illinois died at 4:20 p.m. Tuesday, February 7, 2017 in
Seminary Manor.
He was born April 25,
1927, in Galesburg, the son of Ben and Faye E. (Shanks) Sandberg. He
married Helen M. Hasselbacher on May 28, 1948 in Galesburg. She
preceded him in death on December 24, 1993. He later married Juanita
Lindberg on February 22, 1999 in DeKalb, Illinois. She preceded him
in death on September 11, 2016.
He is survived by two
sons, James R. (and Charlene) Sandberg of Orland Park, Illinois and
David (and Patt) Sandberg of Anchorage, Alaska; a daughter, Becky
(and Don) Derry of Galesburg; five grandchildren; six great
grandchildren; and a sister, Pauline Durham of Moline, Illinois. In
addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by his parents.
Duane was a contractor and
carpenter with his father Ben Sandberg Builder. He then worked for
NoName, Inc. He was a carpenter at the Galesburg Mental Health
Center and then retired from the Illinois Department of
Transportation.
He was a 1945 graduate of
Galesburg High School. He was an active member of the Covenant
Church serving on the building committee and as a trustee.
Visitation will be Sunday,
February 12, 2017 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Hinchliff-Pearson-West
Galesburg Chapel. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, February
13, 2017 at the Covenant Church with Rev. Tom Ek officiating. Burial
will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Duane’s
name may be made to the Covenant Church. Hinchliff-Pearson-West
Galesburg Chapel is handling arrangements for the family. Online
