Elden Kent
Simpson, 66 of Galesburg and formerly of Abingdon, passed away at
7 a.m. Friday,
July 7, 2017 at his home surrounded by the love of his wife and
children.
He was born July
24, 1950 in Knoxville, Tennessee, the son of John P. and Linnie V.
Scarbrough Simpson. He married Evelyn G. Condreay on September 28,
1968.
Elden is
survived by his wife of almost 49 years, Evelyn; three daughters,
Christina Peterson of Galesburg, Penny Simpson of Boston,
Massachusetts and April Simpson of Galesburg; three grandchildren,
John Simpson, Jacklyn Peterson and Colton Peterson; one
great-granddaughter, Alaina Wren; his siblings, Tom Simpson in
Florida, Melton Simpson in Tennessee, Bill Simpson in Tennessee, Paul
Simpson of Galesburg, and Carol McCall of Abingdon; and several
nieces and nephews and their families.
He was preceded
in death by his parents, two brothers, Bud Simpson and Luther Simpson
and two sisters, Johnnie Harrison and Evelyn Nelson.
He grew up in
Abingdon and attended Abingdon schools and later received his G.E.D.
in 1969. He served in the Army for 5 years during the Vietnam War
and later served in the Army Reserves for 5 years. He had worked for
the City of Abingdon and was Head of the Water Department for 5
years. He later worked as a truck driver for West Town Trash Removal
for 3 years. He last worked in maintenance for A.D.M. in Galesburg
for 17 ½ years retiring in 2005.
He attended the
Church of God of Prophecy while living in Abingdon and Calvary
Assembly of God since moving to Galesburg. He enjoyed spending time
on his computer, playing his guitar and most of all spending time
with his family.
As he requested,
cremation will be accorded. A time to celebrate his life will be
held at a later date. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is
assisting the family with arrangements.
