Katherine L. Tate, age 87, of Monmouth, Illinois passed away at OSF Holy
Family Medical Center in Monmouth, IL on Monday July 3, 2017 at 2:00 am.
Katherine was born on July 4, 1929 in Monmouth and is the daughter of Alfred
Levi and Katherine Martha Hayden White. She was raised in Monmouth where she
attended local schools and graduated from Monmouth High School in 1947. She then
attended and received her certification as a registered nurse from the
Burlington School of Nursing in 1950. She married Hal E. Tate Sr. on August 20,
1953 in Piney Flatts, Tennessee. Katherine began work at Mountain Home Veteran's
Hospital where she met her husband, Hal. They then moved to Plainfield, New
Jersey where she was a nurse at Lyons Veteran's Hospital for a number of years.
After that she worked at the Hines Veterans Hospital in Maywood, Illinois and
then worked at the Galesburg Research Hospital in Galesburg, IL. Lastly she was
employed by the State of Illinois as a surveyor for developmentally disabled
facilities. Her family was the top priority for Kate. She rarely missed a
sporting event involving her grandchildren. She enjoyed being a member of the
retired nurses association of Burlington, IA. Katherine is a long-time member of
Fairview Center United Methodist Church locally, where she loved to attend. She
liked to visit with people and was a caring friend to all. She is survived by
her husband, Hal Tate, Sr.; two daughters, Cathy (Craig) Sheagren of Monmouth,
Illinois and Lisa (Chris) Olson in Landisburg, Pennsylvania; two sons, Hal
(Kathy) Tate, Jr. of Monmouth, IL and Jeff Tate of Kirkwood, IL. There are
sixteen grandchildren, Carie (Tyson) Geertz, Stephanie (John) Marron, Ben
(Jennifer) Sheagren, Mike (Sarah) Sheagren, Andy Sheagren, Gentry Tate, Aaron
Tate, Katie Tate, Darcy Young, Tyler (Morgan) Tate, Tanner Tate, Trace Tate,
Lanie Tate, Alex Olson, Matt Olson, and Kimberly Olson. Twenty Great
Grandchildren are also surviving, Daniel Brewer, Laura Geertz, Becky Geertz,
Robin Marron, Abbie Marron, Thomas Marron, August Sheagren, Jacob Sheagren,
Lonnie Sheagren, Tad Sheagren, Sydney Tate, Cally Tate, Grant Tate, Andrew Tate,
Jackson Tate, Addie Tate, Oscar Young, Jet Young, Piper Young, and Benson Tate.
There are also many nieces and nephews surviving.
A funeral service for Katherine L. Tate is planned on Saturday July 8, 2017
at 2:00 pm at the Fairview Center United Methodist Church of Rural Monmouth, IL.
Her family plans a visitation on Saturday from Noon to 2:00 pm prior to the
funeral service at the church. Interment will be in the Warren County Memorial
Park Cemetery following the service, then followed by fellowship back at the
church. A memorial fund is being established for Fairview United Methodist
