Thomas “Tom” Anthony Connell

Thomas “Tom” Anthony Connell, 79 of rural Cameron, died at 9:08 p.m. Monday, April 13, 2015 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.

  He was born June 26, 1935 in Pekin, the son of Richard and Ludwina Thaller Connell.  He married Ruth Ann Baughman on May 25, 1957 at St. Patrick’s Church in Elmwood. 

  Tom is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Ruth Ann; two sons, Tom P. Connell of Charlotte, North Carolina and Tim Connell of Cameron; three daughters, Bridget (David) Cadwell of San Antonio, Texas, Rosemary (Jeff) Gardner of Galesburg and Melissa (Steve) Hughes of Galesburg; three grandchildren, Ian Hughes, Tim Gardner and Hannah Crouse; 4 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dee Rummel of San Jose, Illinois and Colleen Seymour of Franklin, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews and their families.
  He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

  Tom graduated from Yates City High School in 1953.  He farmed near Cameron for over 20 years and he was a mechanic at the former Westbay Equipment, retiring in 2000.  He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Abingdon.  His hobbies included gardening and in his later years, feeding and watching birds.  He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan and Green Bay Packer fan.

  Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Abingdon.  Father William Miller I.C. will officiate.  Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel with the praying of the Rosary at 7:30 p.m.  Cremation will be accorded following the Funeral Mass.
