John W. Moburg, age 85, passed away at 2:35 pm on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center with his family and friends at his side. The hours before were spent laughing and reminiscing. John was born on November 24, 1929 in Monmouth, Illinois, the son of Ernest R. and Edna O. (Swanson) Moburg. John was raised and educated in the area where he graduated from Monmouth High School. He served in the United States Army. On September 29, 1955, John married Margy K. Miller in Piedmont, MO and they spent the next 59 years at each others side. John farmed in Warren County from 1956-1990. He later worked at the Monsanto Research Farm, Peoples Do-It Center in Monmouth, and Farm King in Monmouth. He also was co-owner of The Barnstormer Restaurant in Monmouth. John served on the Yorkwood School Board where he served as President in 1979, 1980, and 1981. John also served on the Board of Directors at United Federal Savings and Loan Association and served as President of the Warren County Prime Beef Festival. He also served on the Council of the First Lutheran Church in Monmouth. John was a long time member of the Church. John and Margy were members of the Lake Warren Association and enjoyed spending time there. He much enjoyed baseball and roller skating. John will be remembered for his jokes, storytelling, and infectious laugh. He never knew a stranger. He is survived by his wife Margy of Monmouth, two daughters; Vickie (Ron) Mohr of Mediapolis, IA and Teresa G. Moburg of Aurora, IL, two sons; Greg (Christeen) Moburg of Georgetown, IN and Todd W. Moburg of West Palm Beach, FL, six grandchildren; Derek, Jordan, Taylor, and Eric Mohr, Kelsey and Allie Moburg. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers; Gilbert and Leon.
A Gathering of Family and Friends is planned from 5:00-7:00 pm on Friday, July 17, 2015 at the First Lutheran Church Fellowship Room in Monmouth, Illinois. Cremation is being accorded. A memorial fund is being established and will be named at a later date. Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth is in charge of arrangements.
