Paul Robert Jehling

Paul Robert Jehling, 72, of Galesburg, died at 7:25 a.m. Tuesday, September 22, 2015 in the emergency room of Galesburg Cottage Hospital.

He was born September 25, 1942 in Percy, Illinois, the son of Earl H. and Margaret L. (Bergfeld) Jehling. He married Karen J. Smith on September 15, 1963 in Galesburg.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Karen; two sons, Bryan (and Amy) Jehling of Tempe, Arizona and Jeffrey (and Elaine) Jehling of Galesburg; three grandchildren, Vanessa, Maureen, and Tyler Jehling; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Allen Jehling.

Paul was a cashier at the Bank of Galesburg for several years. He then was the district office manager for Alexander Lumber Company before retiring in February of 2002. He had taught banking classes at Carl Sandburg College. He graduated from Galva High School in 1960. He went on to attend Illinois State University and graduated from Brown’s Business College.

He was an active member of First Christian Church, where he had served as a Deacon and on the Board of Trustees. Paul had been a Cub Scout leader. He enjoyed painting on canvas and was known for keeping an immaculate yard.

Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, September 28, 2015 at First Christian Church. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Monday at the church with Rev. Greg Fitch and Rev. M.J. Fitch officiating. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Paul’s name may be made to First Christian Church.
