Billy E. Cox

Billy E. Cox, age 61, of Oquawka, Illinois; passed away at 4:10 am on October 10, 2015 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital in Galesburg, Illinois. Billy was born on August 3, 1954 in Pekin, Illlinois and is the son of W.W. and Dorothy L Williams Cox. He was raised in Pekin and as a boy moved to Phoenix, Arizona where he received his education in both Pekin and Arizona. He entered and served his country in the Army as a PFC from 1971 to 1972 during peace time. He was married to Ramona Marie Powell on January 26, 1983 in Burlington, Iowa. She is surviving. Billy began work as a tow truck driver for Tazwell Towing in Pekin, Illinois. When they moved to Burlington he as a driver for Lamont Manufacturing in Burlington for a number of years. Later Billy was an over-the-road driver for several companies locally. He lastly was a driver for Liberty Trucking until his retirement. Billy loved to hunt and enjoyed kidding with his friends. He was a quiet person in his nature, but would do anything for a friend.

He is survived by his wife, Romona M. Cox of Oquawka, Illinois, and his mother, Dorothy L.Williams of Oquawka. His brother, Richard (Tammy) Cox also of Oquawka, his cousin Rick Reeves and Donna of Laven, Arizona. He was especially fond of his Niece and Nephew, Stacey and Matt Thornton, both of Rockford, IL. He is preceded in his death by his grandparents, father, and one brother, Ron Cox.

A gathering of his friends and family will be on Wednesday October 14, 2015 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, IL from 5:00 to 7:00 pm followed by folding and military honors at 7:00 pm. Cremation will then be accorded. A memorial fund is being established by his family. Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka is in charge of local arrangments.
