Ruth Mae Nordgren

Ruth Mae Nordgren, 81 of Galesburg, passed away at 8:34 a.m. Sunday, November 20, 2016 at the Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville.
  She was born February 12, 1935 near Lake Bracken on the family farm to Frederick Oscar and Cora Jane Skinner Kjellander.  She married William R. “Moe” Lawson on September 20, 1955 and later married Rollin Nordgren on July 18, 1975 in Peoria.
   Ruth is survived by her loving husband, Rollie; their children, Suzie (John) Hahn of Roscoe, Judy Jennings of Houston, Texas, Nancy (Bob Johnson) Lawson of Spring, Texas and John Lawson of Alexis, Lyndee (Jim) Lewis of Neenah, Wisconsin, R.D. (Jayma) Nordren of San Diego, California and Jody (Becky Pondel) Nordgren of Rockford; eleven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one on the way; one brother, Francis (Gwen) Kjellander of Leesburg, Florida; three sisters-in-law, Mary Kjellander of Idaho, Bernice Kjellander of Abingdon and Kay (Vince) Laird of Galesburg; and several nieces, nephews and their families.
  She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Glenn Kjellander, Robert Kjellander and Fred Kjellander, one sister, Hazel Wick, her daughter-in-law, Trish Lawson and one nephew, Jason “Jay” Kjellander.
  She graduated from Abingdon High School in 1952 and later from the Cottage Hospital School of Nursing in 1955.  Ruth was passionate for her role as a nurse.  She later worked at Gale Products in the Personnel Office and also at the Walmart General Office in Bentonville, Arkansas.
After retirement, she and Rollie lived near Leesburg, Florida and later in Edinburg, Texas prior to moving back to Galesburg in 2014.
  Ruth was of the Methodist faith.  She was an avid golfer.  She was a member of the Red Hat Society and was a past board member for Gale Credit Union.  She enjoyed crafting, quilting and spending time with family and friends.  
  Cremation will be accorded.  To celebrate her life, family and friends are invited to share in a time of food and fellowship from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, November 27, 2016 at the Abingdon American Legion Post #381, 546 State Route 41 in Abingdon.   Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements for the family.
