George Jeffrey Haworth


George Jeffrey Haworth, 74, of Galesburg, died at 11:18 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.
Jeff was born September 4, 1941 in Milton, MA, the son of George G. and Thelma E. DeLisle Haworth.  He married Mary Anne Dillon on April 4, 1964 in Albany, NY.  Jeff is survived by his wife, Mary Anne of Galesburg; two sons, James (Rebekah) of Wheaton and Wayne (Molly) of Batavia; three daughters, Jennifer (Jose) Aguilarleon of Rolla, MO, Susan (Tony) Harrington of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Melissa (Shawn) McKim of Bettendorf, IA; 20 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. 
Jeff graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY with a BS in Engineering.  He worked for General Electric as a technician until he received his BS.  He then worked as an engineer for GE in Schenectady, NY, Hendersonville, NC and Louisville, KY.  He began working as an engineering manager for Admiral in Galesburg in 1979.  He continued working for Magic Chef and Maytag as an engineering manager until retiring in 2003.  After retirement, Jeff earned his MBA from WIU, Macomb, IL in 2005.  While working for Maytag, Jeff served on various national committees to reduce Freon usage and to increase appliance efficiency.  While working for Maytag he also enjoyed traveling the world and seeing many different countries and cultures.   After his retirement, he continued to work as a consultant for the appliance industry.
Jeff’s family and his legacy were important to him.  He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and enjoyed reading the Bible on a daily basis.  He was a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus.  He will be long remembered for his generosity, kind heart, and corny jokes.  He enjoyed reading, working on his computer and watching movies.  Photography was a passion that he passed on to his grandchildren.  Blessed with a great memory, Jeff never forgot a name or a face.
Visitation will be 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 1, 2016 at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory.  The Rosary will be prayed at 5 p.m.   Additional visitation will be 10 to 10:45 a.m. Monday, May 2, 2016 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.  Funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m.  Rev. Msgr. Ernest Pizzamiglio will officiate.  Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Galesburg.  Memorials may be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, the American Heart Association, or the charity of the donor’s choice.  Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family atwww.watsonthomas.com

Harold Lee Waterman


Harold Lee Waterman, age 72 of rural Stronghurst, Illinois passed away at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday April 27, 2016 at his home. He was born May 27,1943 in Stronghurst, the son of Tim and Olive Kissick Waterman. He was married to Mary Lou Ives. They later divorced. He later married Lois Taylor. They divorced.

Mr. Waterman was a graduate of Stronghurst High School and then served in the Army Reserves. He farmed most of his life near Stronghurst. He also worked at Champion Company, J.I. Case Company, Iowa Army Ammunitions Plant, General Electric Company, and most recently, retired from Will Farms Company in West Burlington.
 
Survivors include one son, Steve (Tammy) Ives of Burlington, IA, three daughters, Barb Sherdahl of Carman, IL, Lorrie (Tony) Witte of Danville, IA, and Wendy Taylor-Kayser of Stronghurst, seven grandchildren, Jeremiah and Jessica Ives, Kelsey Hall, Austin and Ashley Witte, Kayla Kayser, and Connor Sherdahl, one sister, Shirley Stevenson of New London, IA, and five brothers, Bill Waterman of Farmington, IA, Roy Waterman of Stronghurst, Sam Waterman of Danville, IA, John Waterman of Springfiled, MO and Melvin Waterman of Wyoming. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Michelle, in infancy, one grandson, Tyler Ives, and three sisters. Vivian Brill, Catherine Waterman and Doris Peterson.

Visitation will be from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m Sunday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst. The graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday May 2, 2016 in the Stronghurst Cemetery, with Rev. Richard Johnson officiating. Harry E. Tenhaaf


Harry E. Tenhaaf, age 91, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at 5:15 PM on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, Illinois. He was born on January 28, 1925 in Burlington, Iowa, the son of George A. and Lavina F. (Hancock) Tenhaaf. Harry was reared and educated in the Burlington area and attended Burlington High School. Between his junior and senior year in High School, Harry proudly served his Country in World War II. During the war, he was a highly decorated infantryman, serving in the 5th Army, Rainbow Division under General Patton. Harry also served with the Honor Guard for Harry S. Truman. At the conclusion of the war, he served as an MP in Tokyo, Japan. On December 9, 1979 he married Marie Chandler and she is surviving. He was previously married to Edna R. Wayland. Harry was employed from 1950 to September of 1985 with Burlington Northern Railroad as an engineer from which he was retired. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Fireman and Engineers. He also worked as a real estate broker in Galesburg and Monmouth. He enjoyed collecting coins. Harry is survived by his wife, Marie, one daughter, Linda Spence of Galesburg, IL, one son, Douglas W. (Vicki) Tenhaaf of Galesburg, IL. There are six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren surviving. Helen Weilbrenner and Ruth Wyborney, both of Burlington, IA. He is preceded in death by his parents and one son, Steven Tenhaaf, one brother, George Tenhaaf, and one daughter-in-law, Vicky Tenhaaf.

A funeral service is planned for 10:30 AM on Monday, May 2, 2016 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, IL. His family will receive friends from 9:30-10:30 AM prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment with Military Honors will follow the service at Warren County Memorial Park in Monmouth, IL. A memorial fund is being established for Rae's West Adult Education School or the Jamieson Community Center Food Pantry, both of Monmouth, IL. Helen Lucille Froniabarger-Hamilton


Helen Lucille Froniabarger-Hamilton, 90, of Galesburg, died at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at Heartland Healthcare Center, Galesburg.
Helen was born August 9, 1925 in Brookport, Illinois. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. McGowan Hamilton. She married Walton I. Froniabarger on July 5, 1953 in Galesburg, Illinois. He preceded her in death on April 20, 1989.

Helen is survived by her six granddaughters, Jolean Overton-Austin of Davenport, Iowa, Londa Hollowell of Oklahoma City, OK, Sydney Williams of Chicago, Shelia Williams and Michelle Williams of Dubuque, Iowa, Lisa Williams of Galesburg; four grandsons, Scott Hollowell of Tulsa, OK, Charles Williams, Jr. , Tyrone Williams both of Galesburg,  and Cary Williams of Atlanta, GA; great-grandchildren, Eric Hollowell,  Mark Johnson,  and Tristan Johnson of Oklahoma City, OK, Devyn Mekhi Williams of Chicago, Vonte Hollowell of Kewanee, and Rebecca Braun of Tulsa, OK; great-great grandchildren, Raegan Hollowell, Khloee Hollowell,Malaijah Johnson, Markell Johnson, Tristan Johnson Jr, Aiden Johnson and Jayden Johnson of Oklahoma City, OK. Helen is also survived by a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents Golean Shannon Hamilton and McGowan Hamilton, her loving husband, Walton, three brothers,  Robert, Clarence and Waymond Hamilton, and her beloved son, Larry E Hollowell.

Helen worked as a nurse’s assistant at the Galesburg Research Hospital until its closing in 1985 and then continued her career at the Cottonwood Nursing Home for thirteen and a half years before finally retiring in 1999. Helen was a devoted member to Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church in Galesburg. She loved her church and church family, serving as Church Treasurer, Benevolence Chairperson, Usher, Mother of the Church and wherever she was needed, she would gladly volunteer.  She also loved to socialize and attend family and church gatherings. Helen never met a stranger and was a dear friend to all. Her presence on this Earth will be divinely missed by all who loved her. 


Visitation will be 11:00am Thursday April 28, 2016 with Funeral Services following at 12:00pm, at Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church, 210 S. Whitesboro St., Galesburg.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to service. Burial will follow services at East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg. Lee Creek


Lee Creek, 83, of Alexis passed away Sunday April 24, 2016, at the Knox County Nursing Home Knoxville Il.  He was born September 19, 1932 in Goran, MO the son of Lee and Asenithe (Tippet) Creek Sr.  He married Dorothy Keith in 1977 and she preceded him in death in 2003.

Lee is survived by his children Wesley A. Creek of Galesburg, IL, Jeffery L. (Audrey) Creek of Galesburg, IL, Roy I. (Dawn) Creek of Galesburg, IL, Lorene Schisler of Abingdon, IL; two
step children, Jo “Pinky” Gibbons of Galesburg, IL and Alice Keith of Galesburg, IL and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers and sisters.

Lee loved country music and enjoyed playing in the bands Moonlighters and New Country.  He was also an avid Cubs, Bears and Iowa Hawkeyes fan.  He worked at Carl Sandburg College and Admirals.

Alice Anne Lamprecht

Alice Anne Lamprecht went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in the dawn of April 23, 2016. She is survived by her younger sister, Sarah L. Stasen. Her older sister, Martha J. Olson, is deceased. Widowed three times, she is survived by her children Philip Johnson, Nancy Johnson, and Susan Altman from her first marriage to the late Robert W. Johnson; Paula Sindlinger, daughter of the late Paul W. Sindlinger; and Cathy Trenkle, Linda Liles, Claudia Hunter, and Scott Lamprecht, children of the late Robert W. Lamprecht; and is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Alice Anne was born in Monmouth, IL, in 1927, to Arlo Kniss and Ethel Rodgers. Family revolved around church. She graduated from Monmouth College with a degree in mathematics and attended Northwestern University in her junior year. During her schooling in Monmouth, she excelled academically, played the French horn in school bands and orchestras, and with her outgoing personality acted in school and community theater, sang in school and church choirs, and was always active in school groups and activities up through her college years. She and Dad loved and danced to Glenn Miller and other big band music. All during the times of her marriages, she stayed active, serving in her various home churches, active with DAR, Kappa Kappa Gamma, various civic and hospital charities, even being called upon to model in charity events. She was a loving, loving, selfless, and dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. She was gifted in hospitality and putting others before herself. She was a Proverbs 31 woman, some of her many Godly traits being that: she was a wife of noble character, her husbands had full confidence in her and her husbands were respected, she was clothed in strength and dignity, she spoke with wisdom, she did not eat the bread of idleness, and her children and her husbands rose to call her blessed. Proverbs 31:30: Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.

A graveside service and interment will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, April 29, 2016 at Monmouth Cemetery, Monmouth, IL. Visitation at Ahlgrim Funeral Home, 567 S. Spring Rd., Elmhurst from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 26, 2016. A joyful celebration of her life and her homecoming will be celebrated 11:00 A.M. Glennda Susan Driffill


Glennda Susan Driffill, 68, of Galesburg, died Sunday, April 24, 2016 in OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.
Glennda was born August 27, 1947 in Galesburg, the daughter of Glenn Otto and Gloria Marie Shiner Carothers.  Glennda married Gerald G. Driffill on July 20, 1965 in Monmouth.  Glennda is survived by her husband, Jerry of Galesburg; her mother, Gloria of Galesburg; one son, Glenn (Tracy) Driffill of Galesburg; eight grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren with one on the way.  Glennda is also survived by two brothers, Paul J. Carothers of Atlanta, GA and James (Jean) Carothers of Galesburg; and three sisters, Mary K. (John) Simkins of Galesburg, Annette (Mike) Johnson of Gilson, and her twin sister, Anita (Mike) Norris of Galesburg.  Glennda was preceded in death by her father, Glenn on July 4, 1998; a daughter, Christine K. Williams on February 7, 2007, and a brother, Tony Carothers on January 11, 2006.
Glennda graduated from the School of Cosmetology at Carl Sandburg College.  While living in Sante Fe, New Mexico she taught Cosmetology.  Glennda then went on to manage different Motel 6 hotels, settling in Colorado Springs, CO.  After moving back to Galesburg in 1997, Glennda and Jerry babysat their great nephew, Joseph for several years.  Glenda loved to work in her yard, tending to her flowers.  She was a talented artist and loved to personalize letters and envelopes she sent to her family and friends.  She was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church.  When she was little her photo was submitted to the O.T. Johnson’s most beautiful baby contest and she was chosen as the winner.  Glennda had a great love for cats.  Most of all, Glennda loved being with her family and having family get togethers.

Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.  Memorial services will follow at 11 a.m.   Father David Rosenberg will officiate.  Memorials may be made to the family.  Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com.  

Christine Mataya Hillier


Christine Mataya Hillier, 81, of Park Ridge, Illinois formerly of Galesburg died on March 29, 2016 of heart failure.
She was born March 7, 1935 in Granger Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Julia Polich Mataya.  She married Donald Charles Hillier on June 1, 1963 in Galesburg.  He preceded her in 2007.
Surviving is a daughter Amy Hillier, son-in-law Michael Davis, and granddaughter Olivia Davis in Park Ridge, Illinois; siblings Ralph Mataya, Barbara (Gordon) Segelke, Edward Mataya, David Mataya, Joseph Mataya, Michael (Teresa) Mataya, and Marcia (Mike) Pickel, 19 nieces and nephews, and 30 great nieces and nephews.
She graduated from Madrid High School in 1955 and Medical Technology School in 1958.  She lived most of her life in Galesburg.  She was employed for many years as a Lab Technician at Cottage Hospital. 
On a weekly basis, she would go to the Galesburg Public Library to find mysteries and biographies to read.  She enjoyed spending time with friends and listening to good music, especially Frankie Yankovic, Neil Diamond, Johnny Cash, and Elvis Presley.  Prior to moving, she was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. 

Graveside services will be held 11 am Saturday, April 30 at Memorial Park Cemetery.  Monsignor Ernest Pizzamiglio will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Galesburg, Illinois. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. Rolland “Lubby” Ruben Rodgers

Rolland “Lubby” Ruben Rodgers, 86 of Roseville, IL passed away Sunday April 24, 2016, at the Roseville Rehab and Healthcare Center Roseville, IL.  He was born Sunday April 13, 1930 in Roseville, IL the son of John and Ethyle (Olson) Rodgers.  He married Marjorie Hopson on June 28, 1952 at the Roseville Christian Church Roseville, IL.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of Roseville, IL; son Trent Rodgers of Roseville, IL and daughter Sheila (Mike) Kirby of Roseville, IL; grandchildren Alan & Kelly Rodgers, Lynsey (Curt) Kirby Means, Marissa (Justin) Kirby-Stofferahn, Katy (Casey) Kirby Krieg; 6 great grandchildren Sam, Riley, Hillarry, Mallori, Nora, and Freddy; also his faithful companion, Sammy; one brother Leland Rodgers.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brother (Gene Rodgers), sister (Lois Fackler).

He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict where he received the bronze star.  He loved working with his dad in the family business, Rodgers Trucking.  He also worked for the Roseville Unit School Dist. #200, where he was a custodian and drove a school bus and continued to drive after retirement.  He was a member of the Roseville Christian Church and the Roseville American Legion.

Funeral service will be Friday April 29, 2016, 11:00 A.M. at the Roseville Christian Church Roseville, IL with a visitation one hour prior.  Burial will be in the Roseville Memorial Park Cemetery. Willmetta Jean Herbert


Willmetta Jean Herbert, the daughter of the late Ralph and Harriet (Cox) Taylor, was born on April 22, 1933 in Monmouth, Illinois. She was reared and educated in Monmouth, Illinois. In February 1954, Jean entered the Unites States Army and served faithfully until her retirement in April, 1979. She attained the rank of First Sergeant and earned several awards; Army Commendation Medal w/1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal (8th Award), and numerous Letters of Commendation and Appreciation. She held different positions during her career; Non-commissioned Officer in Charge (NCOIC), Department of Pathology at Letterman Army Medical Center, San Francisco, CA, instructor in blood banking and drawing procedures at Brook Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, TX, NCOIC. Patient Administration, Fort Lewis, WA, and the 121st Evacuation Hospital in Korea. On November 26, 1965, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Frankly Herbert. They shared 50 wonderful years together. After retirement, Jean was selected to serve on the Chief of Staff Army Retiree Council in Washington, DC, she volunteered her service at the Thrift Shop, Fort Lewis, WA, and Fort Ord, CA, Retirement Service Office (RSO), DPCA at Fort Leonard Wood, MO, the Retiree Council at Fort Leonard Wood, MO, hosting the Annual Retiree Dinner, and was a member of the E-9's Wife Club on Fort Leonard Wood. In 2010, she was the Parade Marshall during the Veteran's Day Parade. She was a member of the Planning and Zoning Committee in St. Robert, MO. She also volunteered at the YMCA. In her spare time, Jean enjoyed traveling, interior decorating, and planning the family reunion every year. She was a member of the Bellarmine Catholic Church in St. Robert, MO. She served in the choir and was faithful servant until she was no longer able to attend. Jean leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of over 50 years, CSM Franklin Herbert, two sisters; Patricia Lucas of Monmouth, IL, Lillie Hayes of Galesburg, IL, three brothers; Vincent Taylor of Moline, IL, John Taylor of Monmouth, IL, and Robert Taylor of Davenport, IA. A host of nieces and nephews also survive. She is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters; Genevieve Mac Million and Shirley Manley, and one brother, Larry Dean Taylor, who was killed in Vietnam.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. A visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 PM at the funeral home. Harold E. Andrews

Harold E. Andrews, 91, of Galesburg, Illinois, died at 12:33 A.M. Sunday, April 24, 2016 in Rosewood Care Center of Galesburg.

Services will be held at a later date.  Cremation was accorded.  Stephen D. Anderson Funeral Director in care of local arrangements. 

Robert W. “Bob” Moede


Robert W. “Bob” Moede, 71, of Oquawka, IL, passed away at 10:10 a.m., Friday, April 22, 2016 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.

Bob was born on October 3, 1944 in Libertyville, IL, the son of Walter A. and Mildred M. (Senft) Moede.  He was raised and educated in Naperville and graduated from Naperville Central High School in 1962.  He later earned his Master’s Degree while at the Living Light Tabernacle in Roseville.

He married Betty J. Horen in Naperville, IL on June 12, 1965, she survives.

Bob worked as an accountant for the Burlington Northern Railroad for 25 years.  He and his wife have also served as Pastors at the Oquawka House of Prayer for 30 years, and the Assembly of God Church in New Boston for 18 years.  Bob is a former Unit Commissioner for the Boy Scouts of America, and was very active in the Junior Achievement Program.  Bob loved to visit with family and friends, he visited with the sick in the hospital as a Chaplain, and help inmates with his jail house ministries.

He is survived by his wife Betty J. Moede of Oquawka, one daughter Stacy Kastner of White City, FL, two sons; Steven P. (Robbin) Moede of Oquawka, and Jamison R. (Shawn) Moede of Kirkwood, IL.  Also surviving are fifteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. 

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter Debrah Lynn Moede, one brother Walter A. Moede, Jr., and one sister Barbara J. Ericson.

Carolyn M. Strang


Carolyn M. Strang, age 47, of Maquon, Illinois, died at 11:44 A.M. on Thursday, April 21, 2016 at Cottage Hospital, Galesburg, Illinois.

Carolyn was born on October 20, 1968 at Holy Cross Hospital, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the daughter of Timothy and Sandra Pelott Martin. She was raised in Florida, and graduated from Northeast High School in Oakland Park, Florida. She married Daniel Strang on April 21, 1995 in Pasadena, Maryland.

Surviving is her husband, Daniel Strang of Maquon, Illinois; one son, Shane Austin Strang of Maquon, Illinois; her mother, Sandra (Ken Dewey) Pelott of Fitchburg, Wisconsin; one brother Timothy (Tony) Jimerez of Dania Beach, Florida; one half-brother, Eric Martin of Slidell, Louisiana; three adopted sisters, Pamella (Paul) Bernand of Maquon, Illinois, Dawn (Gerald) Zerphey of Maquon, Illinois, and Lori (Dave) Bybee of Maquon, Illinois; two adopted step-daughters, Nicole Herman of Pasadena Maryland and Jillian Rhue of Pasadena, Maryland. She was preceded in death by her father and one daughter, Shelby A. Strang on November14, 2015.


She attended Broward Community College in Florida. She worked at the Publix Supermarket in the Photo Department and for Strang Trucking as the officer manager and dispatcher. She helped out at the Maquon United Methodist Church and was a Cheer Mom in Glen Burnie, Maryland.

Karl M. Flemming


Karl Michael “Goose” Fleming, 65, of Galesburg, died at 7:24 a.m. Friday, April 22, 2016 in the emergency room at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
Goose was born on September 3, 1950 in Galesburg, the son of Andrew C. and Ida Louise Summers Fleming, Sr.  Goose married Patricia Gail Verscha on June 28, 1974 in Galesburg.  Goose is survived by his wife Gail of Galesburg; one son, Jason Fleming of Galesburg; one  daughter,  Nicole Fleming of Galesburg; two brothers, Walter Fleming of Peoria and Glenn (Barbara) Fleming of Suwanee, GA; and two sisters, Caroline Finley of Galesburg and Paulette (Jerry)Gilmore of Geneseo.  Goose is also survived by three grand children, Breonika, LaShawn, and Malik McGee; and 4 great grandchildren, Camari, Cy’Rei, Chemya, and Xy’ele.  He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, David, one sister in law, Cheryl Fleming, and one brother in law, Lugene Finley.
Goose graduated from Beloit Memorial High School in 1968.  He worked for the City of Galesburg in the street department. Throughout most of his life, Goose worked for Fletcher-McDougald Funeral Home and Watson Funeral Home.  He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan and enjoyed watching old movies.  Goose loved spending time with his family and friends and carried a great amount of pride in his family’s longstanding heritage in Galesburg.

Mrs. Beverly A. Ketner



Mrs. Beverly A. Ketner, age 81, of Galesburg, Illinois, died Friday April 22, 2016 at 3:45 a.m. at Rosewood Care Center.

She was born May 12, 1934 in Aledo, Illinois, the daughter of Garrett and Lurene Randall Heck.  She was previously married to Robert Horkstrom and later previously married to Ronald Ketner.

Beverly is survived by two daughters, Rhonda (Ketner) Lovdahl of Galesburg and Robin (Ketner) and David Masterson of Bolingbrook, Illinois; four brothers, Harry T. Heck of Gatesville, Texas, Larry Heck of Aledo, Garrett and Laveta Heck of Rutledge, Missouri, and Charles and Pam Heck of Galesburg; one sister, Brenda Heck of Rio, Illinois; five grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Verle Heck, Blain Heck, and LeRoy Heck.

She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1952.  She worked at Admiral for seven years, Wags for eight years, was a nanny for 13 years, and worked at the Moline Airport Deli for two years.  Beverly taught Horsemanship to the Girl Scouts, collected Beanie Babies, and she loved to cook and sew.  She was of the Methodist faith.

Gary L. Barnett


Gary L. Barnett, 82, of Monmouth, IL formerly of East Moline, IL passed away at 3:15 p.m., Friday, April 22, 2016 at Monmouth Nursing Home, Monmouth.

He was born on March 12, 1934 in Peoria, IL, the son of Herbert A. and Isabelle (Oaks) Barnett.  Gary was raised and educated in Kirkwood; he graduated from Biggsville High School in 1952.  He later graduated from Monmouth College in 1959 and the University of Utah with a Master’s Degree in Social Work in 1961.  Gary served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1953-1956.

Gary married Joyce Underwood on September 5, 1959 in Monmouth, IL, she survives.

Gary was the Vice-President at the Bethany Home in Moline, IL for 28 years before retiring in 1996.  He was the past president of the Rock Island County Health Department, a member of the East Moline School Board, Past President of the Skip-a-long Day Care Board of Directors and a 50 year member of the A. Lincoln Masonic Lodge, #518 A.F. & A.M...

He was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church in East Moline and was currently a member of the First United Methodist Church in Monmouth.   He enjoyed fishing and boating on the Mississippi River.  He loved attending his grandchildren’s many sporting and school events.

Gary is survived by his wife Joyce Barnett of Monmouth, one daughter Lynn (Steve) McVey of Monmouth, one son Doug (Cindy) Barnett of Port Byron, IL,; 4 grandchildren, Matt McVey of Peoria, IL, Hannah McVey of Monmouth, Erin Barnett and Jack Barnett both of Port Byron, IL; nieces and nephews.

Charles R. "Chuck" Butler

Charles R. "Chuck" Butler, age 70, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at 1:00 pm on Thursday, April 21, 2016 at his residence. He was born on September 24, 2016 in Monmouth, IL, the son of Charles B. and Barbara (McKelvey) Butler. Chuck attended high school in Carmel, NY. Chuck served with the United States Marines during Vietnam. On May 24, 2001, Chuck married Kathryn Spires in Monmouth, IL and she is surviving. Chuck was a professional musician, playing base with multiple bands in the area. He was best known for playing with "Alias Smith and Jones" of the Quad Cities and lastly, "Blazing Country" of New Boston. Chuck's heart and soul was music. Chuck is survived by his wife Kathryn, son, Colin (Jennifer) Deppe of Bettendorf, IA, a number of children from previous marriages, two grandchildren, Ashton and Emmalynn, one brother, John Butler of Carmel, NY, and a number of other relatives. He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and one brother.

Eleanor H Maguire


Eleanor H Maguire, 84, of Galesburg, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at 9:23 am at Seminary Manor, Galesburg.
 
Eleanor May Holmdahl was born on August 4, 1931, the daughter of Johan Rudolph and Ruth (Rut f Sandlund) Holmdahl in Chicago IL. She was baptized October 11, 1931 and confirmed Evangelical Lutheran in 1943.  She graduated from Hirsch Metropolitan High School, Chicago, IL in 1949 and went on to attend at Monmouth College in Monmouth IL from 1949 to 1952.
 
Eleanor married Richard E Maguire, of Monmouth IL, on June 21, 1952 in Chicago IL. She lived in several states while her husband pursued a career in construction. Eleanor and Richard moved to Monmouth IL in 1959, where she was a homemaker until her two sons became school age, and took a position in the registrar’s office at Monmouth College.  After her husband’s retirement in 1993, she and Richard moved to Shady Beach, Geneseo IL.
 
Eleanor is survived by her son Matthew (Valerie) Maguire of Galesburg; grandson, Dustin Maguire of Galesburg; and granddaughter, Megan (Cade) Hooker and their children, Sophie, Ella Kate and Maggie of Pontotoc, Miss. She is also survived by the Gordon Holmdahl family in Longville Minnesota, as well as, cousins and descendants of the Carl Johan Holmdahl, and Olof Oskar Sandlund families in the Piteå region of northern Sweden, who she met and lived with the summer of 1946 and re-visited in 1998 with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother and father; husband Richard; son David; brother and sister in law Ralph and Joan Maguire.
 
Eleanor loved to knit, crochet, needle point, garden. She was an avid NASCAR fan, and loved to watch figure skating and tennis.
 
Per Eleanor’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and no services are planned. A private family burial of cremated remains will be held at a later date. Alice M. Sanford


Mrs. Alice M. Sanford, 90, of Galesburg, died 3:30 a.m. Thursday, April 21, 2016 at Knox County Nursing Home. 

She was born August 15, 1925 in Monmouth, Illinois the daughter of Creighton and Margaret Lee Hoskins.  She married Jack R. Sanford on January 14, 1944 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on March 26, 1989.

She is survived by her daughter, Patti Locks of Mesa, Arizona; her sister, Bonita McFarland of Galesburg; her sister-in-law, Sue Hoskins of Galesburg; two grandchildren, Lindsay Owens and Brad Cisco and four great grandchildren, Marshall Cisco, Ryder Cisco, Faith Owens and Sunny Owens. She is preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter, Jacklyn Sanford, her brother, Gero Hoskins and her brother-in-law, Robert McFarland.

Alice worked for the Galesburg Public Safety Building as a receptionist for over 30 years.  She graduated from Galesburg High School.  She was a member of PTA of Galesburg.  Alice was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church and its Women’s Circle.


Funeral Services are scheduled for 12 Noon Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel.  Rev. HOWARD GRANT STAGGS, JR


Mr. Howard G. Staggs, Jr. 76, of Galesburg, Illinois went to be with his Lord at 2:30 am Wednesday, April 20, 2016 in Seminary Manor Nursing Home.

He was born June 6, 1939 in Maysville, Kentucky the son of Howard Grant and Edith Pearce Cooper Staggs, Sr. He married Gerri Morrison Lindburg on April 26, 1980 in Galva, Illinois.

He is survived by his wife, Gerri of Galesburg; his four sons, Timothy (Lori) Staggs of Painesville, Ohio, Tymand (Gregg Chelstowski) Staggs of Keansburg, New Jersey, Larry (Diana) Lindburg of Galva, Illinois, Roy (Debbie) Lindburg of Aiken, South Carolina; two daughters, Kim (Jeff) Banks of Galesburg and Myrna (Joe) Deangelis of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren and his cat, Chester. He is preceded in death by his parents and his infant son, Titus.

Howard was an insurance broker since 1969-and owner of Staggs Insurance Agency since 1983. He graduated from Galesburg high school in 1957. He was a member of Kiwanis and the local and international Gideon’s. Howard was a 50 year member of First United Methodist Church and had attended Community Bible of Knoxville for 5 years.  He enjoyed owning and riding motorcycles. He loved woodworking and furniture making. He also loved his friends and family and was always upbeat.


Funeral services are scheduled for 2 pm Monday, April 25, 2016 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Pastor Mark Robinson will officiate. Mrs. Nola I. Bloom, 91, of Galesburg, Illinois passed away peacefully at 7:33 am Wednesday, April 20, 2016.

She was born August 13, 1924 in Monmouth, Illinois the daughter of Clarence and Bessie Marie Smith Matson. She married Frank J. Bloom on January 9, 1946 in Galesburg. They were married for 62 years before his passing on December 28, 2008.

Nola is survived by her two sons, Frank J. Bloom, Jr. of Toulon, Illinois and David G. and Pamela Bloom of Galesburg; and four grandchildren, Bridget and Erik Wessel of Grafton, Wisconsin, Scott Bloom of Bloomington, Illinois, Kevin and Heather Bloom of Cambridge, Illinois and David J. Bloom of Galesburg; four great grandchildren, Aspen Bloom, Nathaniel, Kayla and Kyle Bloom; two nieces, Debi and Kent Halsted of Whittier, California, Kristin and Thomas Gajdowski of Saegertown, Pennsylvania; one nephew, Timothy Paxson of Nashville, Tennessee, several great nieces and great nephews and cousins.  She is preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, and her sister, Irma Mae Garrett.

Nola worked as a secretary for Gale Products, The Continental Clothing Store, Sears and Gates Rubber Company. She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1942. She was a member of the Viking Club of Moline and the Flemish American Club of Kewanee. Nola was a devoted member of First Lutheran Church where she was a Sunday school teacher, a member of the WELCA group and Christiana Circle.


Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 am Monday, April 25, 2016 at First Lutheran Church. Rev. Pamela Marolla and Rev. Dean Ivan Williams

Dean Ivan Williams, age 65, of Ames, Iowa, formerly of Knoxville, Illinois died on Thursday, April 14, 1916 at Israel Family Hospice House.
Dean was born on September 22, 1950 in Galesburg, Illinois the son of Royce I. and Edna Mae Roberts Williams. He attended and graduated from Knoxville High School.
Surviving are two brothers: Roger L. (Susie) Williams of Knoxville, Illinois and Larry G. (Michelle) Williams of Puyallup, Washington; Sister-in-law: Cynthia Williams of Knoxville, Illinois; two nieces, Stacey and Sarah; two nephews, Shannon and Royce; one great niece, Trista and one great nephew, Cody and Austin; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Marjorie, one brother Jay, one nephew, Troy and his best friend, Wayne Stephenson.
He was a heavy equipment operator, truck driver, working construction and landscaping. He owned his own lawn care and snow removal company. He enjoyed motorcycles, playing pool, guns, his pets and watching T.V.

Cherry C. Hanson


Cherry C. Hanson, age 83, of rural Gilson, Illinois died at 4:15 A.M. on Sunday, April 17, 2016 at the Knox County Nursing Home, in Knoxville, Illinois.

Cherry was born on October 28, 1932 in rural Williamsfield, Illinois the daughter of Carl and Eva Dosset Buck. She married Raymond Meece, then married Marvin Melvin, Jr., then married Rollie E. Hanson, her husband of 42 years, on March 15, 1974 in Knoxville, Illinois.

Surviving is her husband, Rollie Hanson of Rural Gilson, Illinois; two daughters, Becky (Doug) McBride of Knoxville, Illinois and Kathy (Dave) Cole of Oneida, Illinois; eight grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Penny Johnson, three sisters, Virginia, Flora and Polly and one brother, Earl.

She was a school bus driver for the Knoxville School District for 35 years, retiring in 2015.
She sold Avon and raised Alaskan Malamutes and Pomeranians at her home in rural Gilson, Illinois. She enjoyed going to garage sales looking for bargains.

Cherry lived life to the fullest.  She was always quick to share a smile, a story, or a joke with anyone.  She constantly spoke of friends, co-workers, and family that she loved and the joy they all brought to her life. All of Cherry's 83 years on this earth were filled to the brim with friendship, love and happiness.

Sharon K. Taylor age 76 of Bardolph, IL passed away at 6:00 A.M. Monday April 18, 2016 at her residence.  She was born on October 31, 1939 in Prairie City, IL to Robert and Mabel Yocum Miller.  Sharon is survived by 2 Sons and 2 Daughters – Timothy Riden of Macomb, IL, Cynthia (Mike) Ford, and Janice (Mike) Bridgewater both of Bardolph, IL and Donald Riden of Harrisburg, PA, 7 Grandchildren and 24 Great-Grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her Parents and 3 Brothers.
Sharon enjoyed woodworking, bowling, and spending time with her family.  She was an avid Elvis Presley fan and she was able to travel to Graceland several years ago.  She also loved to sing Karaoke.

Visitation will be held from 4 – 6 P.M. on Thursday April 21, 2016 at the Martin-Hollis Funeral Home in Bushnell, IL where friends may call after 2:00 P.M. on Thursday. Cremation rites will follow the visitation and private family burial of her ashes will be at a later date.
