Janice E. Youngquist Candor

Janice E. Youngquist Candor, 82, Galesburg, died Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at OSF St. Mary’s Medical Center, Galesburg.
Janice was born August 9, 1934 in Cameron, the daughter of Elmer E. and Lois Fair Youngquist. She married Larry T. Candor on June 18, 1960 in Cameron. Janice is survived by her husband of nearly 57 years, Larry of Galesburg; two sons, Tom (Jeri) Candor of Cameron and Jon Candor of San Francisco, CA; one daughter, Sara (Troy) Carr of Galesburg; seven grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, Gene (Nancy) Youngquist of Cameron and Frank (Barb) Youngquist of Rock Island. Along with her parents, Janice was preceded in death by two sisters, Marian Isaacson and Barbara Mast.
Janice graduated from Monmouth College with a deep love for history and geography and had a 37 year career as a school teacher for District 205, retiring in 1994. She was a member of Cameron Christian Church and the garden club where she fostered her love of daylilies. But most of all Janice loved her family and was the happiest when she was spending time with them at Satellite Beach, Florida.

Jerald H. Benjamin



Jerald H. Benjamin, 83, of Knoxville, Illinois, died at 10:08 A.M. on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at his home in Knoxville.

Jerry was born on May 17, 1933 in Peoria, Illinois the son of Harley and Beulah (Doubet) Benjamin. He graduated from Williamsfield High School in 1951. He married Jean Self on May 19, 1952 in Dahinda, Illinois. Jerry then married Karen R. Sloan on January 29, 1971 in Williamsfield, Illinois.

He was a farmer in Williamsfield, Illinois, he then worked for the Secretary of State, Department of Motor Vehicles in Galesburg, Illinois; he was a Knox County Deputy; he owned and operated JerDons and the Blue Angel Bar and Grill Galesburg, Illinois, then Jerrys Restaurant from 1979 to 1995 on Galesburg Road; finally, selling Real Estate in the Knoxville area for many years.

He was a member of the Harry Philblad American Legion Post #749 of Knoxville, Illinois and the VFW Post #8 of Galesburg, Illinois. He served in the Marines from 1952  1955. He loved to travel, and visiting Las Vegas.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Karen Benjamin of Knoxville; his children, Bret (Donna Sue) Benjamin of Knoxville, and Amy (Walter) Nettles of Las Vegas, Nevada; five grandchildren, Brandi (Tim) Daugherty of Knoxville, Illinois, Dalton Nettles of Las Vegas, Nevada, Brandon and Nathan Benjamin of Knoxville, Illinois and Josh (Anna) Filson of Macomb; three great-grandchildren, Eric and Alyson Daugherty and Wyatt Filson; one brother, Rolland John Benjamin of Park Ridge, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Ann Sloan and one Brother Hollis W.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2017 from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home Fellowship Center in Knoxville. Illinois. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 1:30 P.M. at the Williamsfield Cemetery, Williamsfield, Illinois with Rev. Chet Travis officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the Williamsfield American Legion Post #371. Inurnment will be at the Williamsfield Cemetery in Williamsfield, Illinois. William J. Miller, Sr.



William J. Miller, Sr., age 85, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away surrounded by his family at 9:09 A.M. on Monday, April 24, 2017 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, Illinois. He was born on January 6, 1932 in Monmouth, Illinois, the only child of Charles G. and Margaret A. (Hayden) Miller. Bill attended schools in Monmouth and was a graduate of Monmouth High School with the Class of 1950. After school, Bill enlisted in the United States Navy, where he proudly served his Country aboard the USS McNair, a naval destroyer. While aboard ship, he worked as a radioman, communicating in Morse Code. After returning home from the service, Bill took up the hobby of Ham radio where he earned a article in the newspaper when communicating with a man from the North Pole. On March 3, 1957, he married the love of his life, Mary Ann Quick and they enjoyed sixty wonderful years together. Bill worked as a printer at Commercial Art Press, in Monmouth, with his dad. He later purchased the business and building and worked there until 1979. Bill loved motorcycles. He rode and raced through the 1970's. He went from sportsman to pro and at one time was ranked #2 in the nation. He passed his love of racing to both of his sons. Bill visited his daughters in Wyoming in 1980 and stayed there to work in the oil fields; as shop boss, dispatching crews and tools to jobs in the booming industry. When he returned to Monmouth, he enrolled at Carl Sandburg College, earning his associates degree. Bill was valedictorian of his graduating class. He then worked for Yemm Chevrolet in Galesburg, with both of his sons, in the service department. He then went to "dealers school" with his son David, and became a dealer at the President River Boat Casino. He later became a pit boss while working there. In retirement, Bill worked with his son Bill, Jr. at his auto detailing business. Bill enjoyed remodeling and caring for his yard. In later years, he became the primary care giver for his wife Mary. In 2012, Bill was diagnosed with cancer, the beginning of a five years battle that he handled with strength and a never complaining attitude. Bill was a patriot, a visionary, and a great Dad. He is survived by his wife Mary, two daughters; Marilyn and Nancy Miller, both of Portland, OR, two sons; Bill (Shelly) Miller Jr., of Galesburg, IL, and David Miller of Monmouth, IL. Bill is preceded in death by his parents.
A funeral service is planned for 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. His family plans to receive friends from 5:00-7:00 P.M. on Friday, April 28, 2017 at the funeral home. Interment with Military Honors will be a Warren County Memorial Park. Sara N. (Free) Clifton

Sara N. (Free) Clifton, 35, of Monmouth, IL died at 4:48 am, Monday, April 24, 2017 at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, IL.

Virgene Shake Seibert

Virgene Shake Seibert, 90, of Galesburg, left her earthly residence to worship at the feet of her Lord Jesus Christ at 5:58 p.m. Monday, April 24, 2017.

Virgene was born November 7, 1926, in Clayton, Illinois, the daughter of Theresa F. (Brierton) Shake and Dillard L. Shake.  Virgene’s education was a Clayton High School and Teletype, Telegraph, TV School in Omaha, Nebraska.  Virgene was employed at CB&Q Railroad yard office in Chicago in 1944 as a teletype operator and at Boys Town.  Later, she became secretary at five Church of God congregations, secretary at Anderson University Admissions Office, secretary in the Dean’s Office at Anderson School of Theology, and an active member of the Women’s Missionary Society.  She worked hand in hand with her husband, Bill, in the ministry.  Virgene was an avid reader and student, a daily writer of journals, and she was humbled by receiving the gifts of teaching and spiritual journal writing for the Lord.  Her interests were creative crafts, photography, sewing, and painting.

Virgene was preceded in death by her husband, William Peter Seibert from Park Place, Pennsylvania.  They were married June 21, 1945 in Sioux City, Iowa.  Virgene’s son, Billy Lamont Seibert (Brenda), preceded her in death March 14, 2014.

Virgene is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Ann Seibert (Dale) Judy of Knoxville, Illinois; six grandchildren, James Andrew (Vanessa) Brown of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Beth Ann McFarland of Galesburg, William Ross (Michelle) Brown of Monmouth, Zachary Beau (Tracey) Seibert of Columbia, South Carolina, Saul Gabriel (Kelly) Seibert of Columbia, and Magdalene Belle (Dale) Kellett of New Orleans; a dear friend, Donna Tripp of Galesburg; and 13 great grandchildren.

Celebration of her life will be 12:30 p.m. Thursday, April 27, 2017 at First Church of God, 1080 Harrison St., Galesburg.  Rev. Dennis McQuown will officiate.  The family will receive friends at the church 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday.  Burial will follow in East Linwood Cemetery.  Virgene’s legacy is the reflection of Jesus Christ’s love in her daily example, bringing about changes in the lives of those who loved her and others she never met, except through her writings.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to First Church of God.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors of Galesburg is handling arrangements for the family.  Online condolences may be made at their website, www.h-p-w.com.

Racheal A. McKillip

Racheal A. McKillip, 46, of Galesburg, died at 11:07 a.m. Monday, April 24, 2017 at home.

She was born July 27, 1970, in Galesburg, the daughter of Stephen A. and Jane (Ellison) Thurman.  She married Francis McKillip on February 3, 1989 in Burlington, Iowa.

She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Francis; her mother, Jane Allen of Galesburg; two sons, Joel and Brian McKillip, both of Galesburg; a step son, Greg (fiancé Marissa) McKillip of Chicago; and her in-laws, Joseph and Fannie McKillip of Galesburg.  She was preceded in death by her father, Stephen Thurman; her step father, Darrell D. Allen; her half-brother, Gregory M. Allen; and her beloved grandparents, Maynard M. and Anastasia Ellison.

Racheal was raised and educated in Galesburg.  She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1988 and from Carl Sandburg College in 2012.  She most recently worked in the business office at Carl Sandburg College.  She was of Christian faith.

Racheal loved her pets.  She also enjoyed crafting, cross stitch, and cooking.  Racheal was a very social person who loved and cared for her family, friends, co-workers, and students.  She was an active supporter of METAvivor.org, a stage IV breast cancer support group, and recently had an article published with them.

Cheryl A. Danner


Cheryl A. Danner, 68, of Avon, IL passed away at 10:51 AM Monday April 24, 2017 at her residence. She was born January 26, 1949 in Rock Island, IL to Robert and Dorothy Lee. She married Ralph Danner Jr. on May 1, 1971 in Greenbush, IL. He preceded her in death on April 19, 2011.
Surviving is one son, Paul (Kelly) Danner of Allentown, PA; step-daughter Elizabeth “Beth” (Robert) Slawson of Davenport, IA; step-son Stephen Flatman of Muscatine County, IA; sister Carol (Daryl) Skildum; two brothers, Robert (Kay) Lee and Brian (Janet) Lee.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Cheryl enjoyed antique shopping and the outdoors, especially fishing and watching wildlife.
Services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday April 27, 2017 at the Corman Memorial Home where visitation will be one hour prior to services from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM. Pastor Jim Eddy will officiate. Jeanette M. Costello, 96, of Galesburg, died at 1:50 a.m. Monday, April 24, 2017 in the Heritage Park Care Center, Carbondale, CO.

Josephine Catherine “Jo” Hobbs



Josephine Catherine “Jo” Hobbs, 91, of Colorado Springs, CO, formerly of Galesburg, died at 3:43 p.m. Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Brookdale Skyline, Colorado Springs, CO.
Jo was born December 30, 1925 in Toronto, OH the daughter of John and Elizabeth Hooks Hiryak.  She married Richard Buescher.  She later married Raymond J. Hobbs on July 3, 1970.  He preceded her in death on September 3, 2011.  Jo is survived by one son, Leo (Shirley) Buescher of Galesburg; two daughters, Cathy Sutliff of Colorado Springs, CO and Beth (Rod) Hallstrom of Hinesville, Georgia; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She is also survived by one brother, Albert Hiryak of Sun City, AZ; and two sisters, Betty Rittman of San Angelo, TX and Mary Roberts of Cabot, AR.  Along with her husbands and parents, Jo was preceded in death by two brothers, Victor and John.
Jo worked as a telephone operator for 30 years at Interstate Phone Company.  She was a longtime member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Galesburg.

Visitation will be 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 27, 2017 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Galesburg with the rosary being prayed at 10:30 a.m.  The funeral mass will follow at 11 a.m. with Msgr. Fred W. Rosa M. Smith




Rosa M. Smith, 96, of rural Galesburg, died at 12:10 a.m. Monday, April 24, 2017 in Rosewood Care Center.

She was born September 21, 1920, in Henderson Township, the daughter of Edwin O. and Edna M. (Ellickson) Smith.

She is survived by two brothers, Harold Smith of Galva and Harvey Smith of Galesburg; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Harry and Roy; two sisters, Mabel and Ellen; and a sister in infancy.

Rosie had worked at Kresge’s, Kline’s, and J.C. Penney’s Department Stores before going to work at Protexall.  She retired in 1982 after 28 years.  She was a lifelong member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Henderson Grove.  Rosie was baptized there as an infant and was confirmed in 1936.  She was active there with W.E.L.C.A. and was a Sunday school teacher.

Joyce E. Hagemann

Joyce E. Hagemann, age 89, of Monmouth, Illinois; passed away at 4:00 pm on Sunday, April 23, 2017 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, Illinois. Joyce was born on March 5, 1928 in Burlington, Iowa and is the daughter of Oscar F. and Johanna J. Kupfer Wiele. Joyce was raised in Burlington where she attended local schools and graduated from Burlington Senior High School. She then attended and received her Bachelors of Arts degree as a teacher from Elmhurst College in Elmhurst, Illinois. She was married at the 1st United Church of Christ in Burlington, IA to Clinton S. Hagemann on Augst 25, 1949. He preceded her in death in February 1998. Joyce first was director of Christian Education at the first Congregation Church in Elmhurst, Illinois in 1948 and 49. She then was the first teacher of Warren Achievement School in Monmouth, Illinois and later taught Seventh grade from 1963 to 1983 at Central Junior High School in Monmouth, IL. Joyce is a member of Faith United Presbyterian Church where she taught Adult Bible Class and also was an ordained Deacon and Elder of her church. She is a life member of the American Association of University Women, Community Memorial Hospital Auxiliary of Monmouth, Zetetic Book Club, the Buchanan Center for the Arts, United Presbyterian Women, Warren County Retired Teachers Association, and a life member of Illinois Retired Teachers Association. Joyce is survived by two sons, Bruce (Lynne) Hagemann of Tuscaloosa, Alabama and John (Vanessa) Franklin of San Francisco, California. Her granddaughter, Adrian M. Hagemann and grandson, William B. Hagemann. She is preceded in death by her sister, JoAnn Wiele.
Cremation is being accorded. A memorial service is planned for 10:00 am on Friday, April 28, 2017 at Faith United Presbyterian Church. Her family will receive friends from 9:00-10:00 am prior to the service at the Church. Her ashes will then be interred in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington, Iowa. Family fellowship will follow at Faith United Presbyterian Church social hall. A memorial fund is being established for Faith United Presbyterian Church in Monmouth, IL has been established. Mary Irene Miller

Mary Irene Miller, age 87, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at 8:55 A.M. on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Monmouth Nursing Home in Monmouth. She was born on April 23, 1929 in Mt. View, Arkansas, the daughter of Zed and Mary Gertha (Branscum) Looney. Mary attended rural school in the Mt. View area. On May 7, 1979, she married Finley G. Miller in Monmouth, Illinois and he preceded her in death on December 25, 1983. Mary was previously married to Lonnie J. Brewer. She worked for Wells Pet Food and Wilson Foods in Monmouth. Mary was a homemaker. She was a member of the Southern Baptist Church in Arkansas and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. Mary is survived by her daughter-in-law Defrance "Dee" Brewer of Monmouth, two granddaughters; Kimberly Carlson and Leslie Brewer, two grandsons; Mike Brewer and Justin Brewer, one niece, and her special friend, Gerri Merry. She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, three sons, two sisters, and special friend, Martha Brown.

Norma Jean Lucas

Norma Jean Lucas, 89, of Alexis, IL passed away Saturday April 22, 2017 at Heartland Healthcare Center Galesburg, IL.  She was born Thursday April 19, 1928, the daughter of Lawrence and Nellie (Adcock) Vance.  She married William W. Lucas in Coldbrook, IL on July 6, 1946, he preceded her in death on August 8, 2010.
Those left to cherish her memory are one son, Larry Lucas of Henderson, IL, one grandson, Aaron Lucas of Kenosha, WI, two brothers, David Vance of Rock Island, IL and Kenneth Vance of Galesburg, IL, along with nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents and husband and one sister Alice Osgood.
Norma was raised and educated in Galesburg, IL.  She was a seamstress, having worked at Formfit in Monmouth and Gross Manufacturing and Protexall Manufacturing in Galesburg, IL.  She enjoyed sewing, reading, and couponing.  She was a member of the North Henderson United Methodist Church and its Friendship Class.  She was also a member of the Alexis Woman’s Club, North Henderson Lion’s Club and the Home Extension Kelly Unit.

Gerald (Jerry) Wayne Becraft

Gerald (Jerry) Wayne Becraft, 78, of Roseville, IL passed away Thursday, April 20, 2017 at 8:00 p.m.  He was born September 4, 1938 in Macomb IL...the son of Kenneth (Joe) and Hester (Fidler) Becraft.  He married Carol Ann Babcock on September 7, 1958 and was happily married for the last 59 years.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children David Wayne (Jodi) Becraft of Baraboo, WI, Kenneth Edward (Cindy Perkins) Becraft of Knoxville, IL, Steven Michael (Jeanne) Becraft of Oilville, VA and Richard Allen (Jauna) Becraft of Baraboo, WI; grandchildren Amanda (Strashe) Petrov, Ashley Becraft, Joe Becraft, Nathan (Mallory) Becraft, Mitchell Becraft, Mary Becraft, Anne Becraft, Sarah Becraft, Grace Becraft, Kaleb (Jamie) Becraft, Amber (Patrick) Flint, Matthew Becraft; great grandchildren Camille Flint, Meredith Flint and Benjamin Becraft.  He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter in-law (Ellen Becraft), great grandson Macen Petrov. 
Jerry served in the Illinois National Guard from 1956-1969, where he earned the rank of Captain.  He had a career managing lumber yards for the Alexander Family in both Roseville, IL and Baraboo, WI.  He was an active member of the United Method Church with a passion for mission trips.  Jerry loved retirement, eating seafood on the Fort Myers coast, driving his big red tractor for Killey Farms and traveling the world with family and friends.  His biggest joy and interest beyond his family was Roseville Boy Scout Troop 336 where he served and supported the youth of Roseville for over 45 years.

Pauline "Boots" (Lantz) Winbigler

Pauline "Boots" (Lantz) Winbigler, 90, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away on April 20, 2017 at Heartland Health Care Center. She was born September 27, 1926 in Maquon, Illinois, the 5th of eight children of Earl and Mazie (Black) Lantz. At an early age she received her nickname, Boots, from her older sister, Dorothy, having named her after a comic strip character that had blonde, curly hair. After graduation from Monmouth High School, she enlisted in the United States Navy and served as a W.A.V.E. during World War II. After completing basic training in New York City, she was stationed in Washington, D.C., serving in the Naval photography department where she assisted in viewing all photos and videos being sent from overseas and the classification of all material received. Following a brief marriage to Don Roberts, she worked helping her parents as the caretaker at the Warren County Home located south of Monmouth. While there, she was introduced to her future husband and the love of her life, Lloyd F. Winbigler. They were married July 28, 1951 on the lawn of the County Home. Together they raised eight children: Carol (Ron) LeGate of Galesburg, IL, Kathryn (Kent) Willis of Monmouth, IL, Ronald Winbigler (deceased) Regina (Tom) Settlemyre, Fort Mill, SC, Rick (Donna) Winbigler of Monmouth, IL, Donna (Bill) Ramsey, of Waxhaw, NC, Randy (Jan) Winbigler of Roseville, IL, and Roy Winbigler of Galesburg, IL. Besides her living children, she is also survived by one brother, David Lantz of Monmouth, IL, sisters-in-law Joyce Lantz (Chuck), Alberta Lantz (Don), and Peg Lantz (Robert), 18 grandchildren, and 31 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Lloyd in 2004, son Ron, brothers Rex, Robert, Chuck, and Don, and sisters Mary Jane McMaster and Dorothy McCrery. She was a member of the Gerlaw Christian Church where she faithfully served her entire adult life. She served on many boards and committees in the Monmouth area including the Warren School Board, Stockland F.S. board, President of the Warren County Republican Women, the Y.M.C.A. board at the time of the new building in Monmouth, and the Warren-Henderson Farm Bureau board, and was honored to receive their Ag Service Award.
Cremation is being accorded. A memorial service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth with the Rev. Paul Lydic officiating. Her family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 24, 2017 at the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors will be in Gerlaw Cemetery. John S. McGuire

John S. McGuire, 73, of Alexis, IL died at 12:15 p.m. Monday, April 17, 2017 at his home.

He was born on September 13, 1943 in Galesburg, IL, the son of Joseph Bernard and Duane E. (Anderson) McGuire.  John was raised and educated in the Monmouth area and graduated from Yorkwood High School in 1960.  He served in the Illinois National Guard from 1963-1969.

John worked for over 20 years at Henry C. Hill Correctional Center as a Corrections Officer.  He attended Coldbrook Christian Church.  John enjoyed working on the farm for many years, and liked working with horses. 

Surviving John are his children; JP (Amy) McGuire of Malta, IL, Jamie (Jennifer) McGuire of Galesburg, IL, Jill (Scott) McClintock of Monmouth, IL, and Justin McGuire of Monmouth, IL.  Also surviving are his grandchildren; Cooper McGuire, Lucas McGuire, Brayden McGuire, Brody McGuire, Mira McClintock; one sister, Patricia Sharp of Linwood, WA, two nieces and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Dale McGuire and one sister, Dorothy McGuire.

Catherine “Kay” A. Vincent, 97, of Monmouth died at 3:12 am, Wednesday, April 19, 2017at Seminary Manor, Galesburg, IL.

She was born Jan. 25, 1920 in Akron, OH, the daughter of John Joseph and Mary Elizabeth (Hilbert) Barry.  She was raised and educated in Akron, graduating from St. Vincent’s High School in Akron.

Kay married James Fulmer and later Allyn Vincent.

She was a Homemaker and nurses aid.  She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Monmouth.  Kay enjoyed playing Bingo with Monica Vail and crocheting.  She was lovingly known as “Grandma Kay” to many.   

Survivors include her daughter, Cathy (John) Eshleman of Galesburg; son, Tom (Linda) Fulmer of Yuma, AZ; 4 grandchildren, Gary (Kris Stull) Vail of Alexis, IL, Becky (Scott Price) Vail of Galesburg, IL, April (Matt) Krivohlavy of Japan, Christopher (Katy) Fulmer of Flagstaff, AZ ; 4 great grandchildren, Morgan Vail, Kayla Stull, Colton Fulmer, Theodore Krivohlavy; 2 sisters, Jeanette Blind of Norton, OH, Margaret Adams of Akron, OH; brother, James Barry of CA; nieces and nephews.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, brothers, Tom Barry, Bill Barry and Patrick Barry; sister, Mary Williams.

Morilla J. Lair

Morilla J. Lair, 82, of Lomax, Illinois, passed away at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday April 18, 2017 at her home. She was born August 3, 1934 in Monmouth, Illinois, the daughter of Arthur Vern and Gladys Luscomb Waterman. On November 5, 1951, she married William "Bill" Lair in New Orleans, Louisiana. He preceded her in death on September 30, 1989.

Mrs. Lair lived all of her adult life in Lomax. She was employed as a corrections officer for Des Moines County Correctional Center in Burlington, Iowa for several years. She was an avid bingo player, and enjoyed spending time with her family.

Survivors include three daughters, Jeri (Gene) Karger and Doris Donaldson, both of Lomax, IL, Diana (Pete) Hernandez of Montrose, IA, seven grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two sisters, Ellrona Van Hyning and Thelma Todd.

Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until 1:50 p.m. Saturday April 22, 2017 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City, Illinois, followed by a graveside service at 2:00 P.M. in the Crane Cemetery, near Lomax, IL. JoAnn Nelson

JoAnn Nelson, 86, of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 6:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at her home. 
She was born on January 12, 1931 in Lenox Township, Warren County, IL, the daughter of Algie Thomas and Margaret Ellen (Bader) Shawler.  JoAnn was raised and educated in Warren County, IL. 
JoAnn married Gerald Rutledge in Monmouth; she later married John P. Nelson on May 4, 1969 in Monmouth, he preceded her in death on May 2, 2016.   
JoAnn owned and operated the Country Kitchen in Monmouth for several years.  She most recently volunteered for over 25 years at Strom Center in Monmouth, where she helped manage the thrift store.  JoAnn enjoyed crafts, playing cards, fishing, and visiting with her family and friends. 
Surviving JoAnn are twelve children, Jane Nelson of Waterloo, IA, Margaret (Mike) Chavez of Weslaco, TX, Jim (Dee) Nelson of Silvis, IL, John (Susie) Nelson of Bettendorf, IA, Bill (Allene) Nelson of Martinburg, WV, Mary (Michel) Johnson of Enid, OK, Barb Chenault of Monmouth, IL, Sherry (Gary) Lee of Monmouth, IL, Steve (Linda) Rutledge of Woodburry, GA, Joyce (Tom Atkins) Talbott of Phoenix City, AL, Lisa Hull of Monmouth, IL and Christine (Jarvis) Melton of Boone, IA; thirty five grandchildren, forty three great grandchildren, and  three great great grandchild.  Also surviving are her siblings; Virginia Yoder of Monmouth, Mary Hastings of Monmouth, Donna Stokes of Monmouth, Tom (Bea) Shawler of Colorado, Diane (Ken) Kittleson of Minnesota, and Donny (Sharon) Shawler of Missouri. 
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, Betty and Dolores, one brother; Bobby, and one son, Paul Rutledge.

Joyce A. Robinson

Joyce A. Robinson, 76, of Roseville, left this earth on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 to begin her new life in the presence of Jesus. Joyce was born Friday, November 1, 1940 in Galesburg, IL.  She was the daughter of Blaine and Nellie (Button) Turner of Roseville. 

Joyce married the love of her life, Larry Robinson, on September 13, 1958. They have four children. Lori (Ken) Allaman of West Burlington, IA; Judi (Kary) Myers of Camp Point, IL; Kathi (David) O'Brien of Scottsdale, AZ and William (Cynthia) Robinson of Milan, IL. Eight grandchildren, Katie Allaman, Zackary Myers, Logan (Charlotte) Myers, Brendan (Natalie) O'Brien, Connor O'Brien, Sean O'Brien, Blaine Robinson and Amanda Robinson.  One great grandson, Kayden O'Brien; four brothers Ronald (Mary) Turner, Thomas (Shirley) Turner, David Turner, and Richard (Patricia) Turner; sister-in-law Donna Kirby; many nieces and nephews and close friends that were more like family.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother (Ronald).

Anyone who knew Joyce knew she love three things. Jesus, her family and flowers!

Marion "Brownie" Brown, Jr

Marion "Brownie" Brown, Jr. age 83, of Mediapolis, Iowa, passed away at 7:08 P.M. on Monday, April 17, 2017 at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington, Iowa. He was born on March 8, 1934 in Gulfport, Illinois, the son of Marion C. and Cora F. (Eaton) Brown. He attended school in Gladstone. On February 14, 1982, Marion married Emma Gale McDavid in Monmouth, IL, and she preceded him in death. Brownie was employed as a salesman in the medical supply business. He first worked for Security Lab in Burlington, IA for twenty-eight years. He later worked for Hawkeye Medical in Iowa City for ten years. Brownie retired in March of 1996. He very much enjoyed working with the public. Brownie served as the Mayor of Gulfport, Village Board of Oquawka, Mayor of Oquawka, and the Henderson County Board for fourteen years. While on the County Board, he served as Chairman for four years. Brownie was a member of the Faith Bible Church in Oquawka with bible study being an important part of his life. He was a Freemason. He enjoyed cutting grass, loved animals; especially dogs, and spent as much time as he could with his family. Marion is survived by two daughters; RaeAnn (Rennie) Ludens of Burlington, IA, and Debbie (Lyle) Massner of Morning Sun, IA, one son, Wally (Elaine) Brown of Milaca, MN, two step-daughters; Gwen Lox of Oquawka, IL and Gay Lynn Hastings of Galesburg, IL, one step-son, Gary Green of Oquawka, IL, eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces and nephews are also surviving. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, three sisters, and two brothers.
A funeral service is planned for 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, Illinois. His family will be present for visitation from 9:30-10:30 prior to the service. Following the service, as were Brownie's wishes, cremation will be accorded. A memorial fund is being established for Faith Bible Church in Oquawka. Mary E. Peterson

Mary E. Peterson, 91, of Knoxville, died at 10:55 A.M. on Sunday, April 16, 2017 at her daughter`s home in rural Gilson, surrounded by her family.

Mary was born on November 25, 1925, in Monmouth, Illinois the daughter of Gertrude E. Holt. She graduated from High School in 1944 from Marshalltown, Iowa. She then attended George Washington University with a Nursing Home Administration Degree. She married Robert G. “Pete” Peterson on June 1, 1945 in Knoxville, Illinois. He preceded her in death on April 8, 2016.

She is survived by her children, B. Christine (Robert) Bailey of Rural Gilson, Illinois and Charles (Jean Ann) Peterson of Knoxville; grandchildren, Mary (Byron) Austin of Knoxville, V. Lynn Klossing of Galesburg, Rachel Kennedy of Knoxville and Eric (Sarah) Peterson of Galesburg and 10 grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her mother, Gertrude Kinney and her husband, Robert G. Peterson.

She was employed by the Knox county Nursing Home in Knoxville, Illinois for 23 years, serving as its’ Administrator for 10 years. She was a member of Knoxville Women’s Club, 25 year member and past president of the M.I. Club, and she enjoyed spending time with her special group of friends (“The Troop”) and was an Altrusa Emerites. Mary was a 70 year member of the Grace Lutheran Church of Knoxville, the Grace Lutheran Church of Knoxville`s Knitting Circle, the Knox County Nursing Retirees and the Historic Sites.

Cremation rites will be accorded. A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2017 from 9:00 A.M. – 11:00 A.M. at the Grace Lutheran Church in Knoxville, Illinois. Lloyd K. Reynolds

Lloyd K. Reynolds, 57, of Conesville, IA, died at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Pearl Valley Rehabilitation in Muscatine, IA. 

He was born January 26, 1960 in Monmouth, IL, the son of Kenneth G. and Rose A. (Munson) Reynolds.  He was raised and educated in Monmouth and attended Warren High School.

Lloyd worked construction for a time with Oscar and Lowell Neil in Monmouth.  He most recently worked at Tyson Foods in Columbus Junction, IA in maintenance and welding.  Lloyd loved playing and listening to music, he enjoyed playing the keyboard and harmonica.  He enjoyed spending time outdoors and was an avid reader. 

Survivors include his daughter, Amanda (Fred Hudson) Reynolds of New Port Richey, FL; one grandson, Justin Isiah Reynolds of Iowa; one sister, Alice (Craig) Cavanaugh of Monmouth; one brother, Karl G. (Mary Jo) Reynolds of Alexis, IL; one brother-in-law, Tim (Alice) Denison of Monmouth, several nieces and nephews.

H was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Joyce Denison.

Joyce Ann (Rumler) Kimberley

Joyce Ann (Rumler) Kimberley, age 76 of Galesburg, Ill. died Sunday April 16, 2017 at 9:10 a.m. at Cottage Hospital.

She was born July 5, 1940 in Canton, Ill. the daughter of Ernest and Edith Anderson Leonard.

Joyce is survived by her mother Edith Leonard of Monmouth, Ill., one daughter Tracy and Timothy Blanchard of Pekin, Ill., one brother Richard and Judy Leonard of Knoxville, Ill., one sister Sharon and Terry Langdon of Monmouth, Ill. and three grandchildren, Dustin and Lisa Blanchard, Taryn and Drew Hastings, Lauren Blanchard, and six great grandchildren.

She graduated from J. Sterling Morton East High School in Cicero, Ill. in 1958 and Graham Hospital School of Nursing in Canton, Ill. in 1962. She was a Registered Nurse for 43 years retiring in 2005.

Joyce loved spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and her cat Maynard. She enjoyed reading, crafts, and cross stitching.

Cremation will be accorded. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Friday April 21, 2017 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Deacon Timothy Blanchard officiating. Harvey W. Templeton

Harvey W. Templeton, 79, of Galesburg, Illinois died with his family at his side at 2:58 p.m. Saturday, April 15, 2017 at his home.
He was born on October 13, 1937 in Galesburg to Clarence and Mary A. Simpkins Templeton.  He married Nancy Alderson on November 21, 1959 in Galesburg. 
Harvey is survived by his wife, Nancy of Galesburg; two daughters, Kelly (and Steve) Cheesman of Galesburg and Kendra (and Bob) Dochterman of California; two sisters, Caroline Adolphson and Bonnie (and Larry) Reid both of Galesburg; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Templeton; a brother-in-law, Ray Jacobs; and four grandchildren, Breck and Carson Cheesman and Logan and Olivia Dochterman.  Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, Penny Kay; two brothers, George Templeton and Clarence Templeton; and three sisters, Christine Luper, Mary Jane Bell and Margo Jacobs.
Harvey was a Store Clerk for the C.B. & Q., Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railroads for 40 years, retiring in 1997.  As a teenager, he worked with his father at Templeton Roofing.
He was a 1956 graduate of Galesburg High School.  He was a member of Central Congregational Church where he served as head usher, deacon and a Sunday school teacher.  He was a supporter of the Galesburg Railroad Museum and American Legion Baseball.  He was an IHSA basketball, football and baseball official.  He enjoyed gardening.  He loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.
Harvey never met a stranger.
  
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the Central Congregational Church.  Rev. James Ecklund and Rev.
