Sarah L. Schisler

Sarah L. Schisler, 82, of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 1:16 a.m. Monday, February 29, 2016 at Seminary Manor, Galesburg.

She was born April 9, 1933 in Monmouth, IL, the daughter of Collie Garland and Madeline Mae (Miller) Coffman.  She was raised and educated in Monmouth.

Sarah married Milo “Mike” Gray Pierson in Monmouth on September 5, 1951.  She later married Charles “Shot” Franklin Schisler in Monmouth on July 27, 1961 and he preceded her in death on January 15, 2006.

Sarah worked at Formfit, Forman Book Bindery and Glastex Boat Factory all in Monmouth.

Survivors include her 3 daughters, Peggy Mettler and Michele (Gary) Wright both of Monmouth and Deanna Ralston of Galesburg; one son, Ken (Vicki) Pierson of Pekin, IL; one sister, Betty Hoskins of Galesburg, IL; 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters; Mildred Carnes and Mary Forman.

Cremation has been accorded. A public memorial service with interment at Center Grove Cemetery in Kirkwood will take place at a later date.   Memorials can be made to the Sarah Schisler Memorial Fund. Charles Arthur “Charlie” Johnston

Charles Arthur “Charlie” Johnston, 67, of Roseville, IL passed away 10:20 am Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at the Roseville Rehab and Health Care Center Roseville, IL.  He was born April 30, 1948 in Monmouth, IL the son of Russell H. and Bertha (Peterson) Johnston.
 
Those left to cherish his memory are one brother, William Russell (Marilyn Sue) Johnston of Belleview, Nebraska, along with several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
 
He was raised and educated in Roseville, IL.  He was known for mowing yards in Roseville.  He was of Methodist faith.
 
Graveside service will be Wednesday March 2, 2016, 11:00 am at the Point Pleasant Cemetery Roseville, IL.  Burial will be in the Point Pleasant Cemetery, Roseville, IL.  Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 pm on Tuesday March 1, 2016 at the Wise Family – Hoover Hall Funeral Home Monmouth, IL. Brenda G. (Hepner) Craig

Abingdon - Brenda G. (Hepner) Craig 60, of Abingdon, IL passed away at 8:54 pm Wednesday, February 24, 2016 in Care Center of Abingdon.  She was born in Davenport, IA on June 7, 1955, the daughter of Merle and Alice (Lake) Hepner.
                                                                                                   
She was raised and educated in Galva, IL.  She was employed at Walmart for 15 years.
She was of the Lutheran faith.   

She is survived by her daughter, Crystal (Andrew) Wheeler of Seaton, IL; two sisters, Randi Hepner and Linda Kennedy both of Fulton, IL; one brother, Rodney Hepner of Galva, IL; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Wheeler and numerous nieces and nephews.  She lived with her cousin Vicky Sanders for 8 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Dennis Hepner.


Cremation rites have been accorded.  A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2016 from 1:00 – 4:00 pm at Mary’s family dining, route 34 Galva, IL.  Memorial may be left to the family.  Stephen D. Anderson Funeral Director in care of arrangements.

Glenn Austin Reed

Glenn Austin Reed, 85, of Rio, died at 9:25 a.m. Friday, February 26, 2016, in Seminary Manor in Galesburg.

He was born May 22, 1930 in Warren County, the son of Ralph and Lou (Baker) Reed.  He married Barbara Doubet on December 21, 1974 in Maquon.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Barbara; a son, Michael (and Pepper) Reed in California; a daughter, Vickie (and John) Bobbitt of Ringtown, Pennsylvania; a step daughter, Robbie (and Don) Marvel of Peoria; 12 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Marian Reed of Avon; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Constance McCollum; a brother, Eugene Reed; and two sisters, Martha Christiansen and Helen Reed.

Glenn was a crane operator at Admiral Corporation for over 39 years, retiring in May 1990.  He graduated from Avon High School.  He was a member of the Spoon River Antique Club.  He had a pilot’s license and owned a plane at one time.

Glenn served in the United States Marine Corps from 1951 to 1954.  He was a Corporal serving in Korea.  He was a member of VFW Post 2257 in Galesburg and American Legion Post 727 in Oneida, where he served on the honor guard.  In 2014, Glenn took the Honor Flight.


Visitation will be 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2016, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel.  Funeral service will follow at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Don Larry Johnson

Don Larry Johnson, 79, of Wataga, died at 4:54 p.m. Thursday, February 25, 2016, at home.

He was born February 18, 1937 in Galesburg, the son of Victor and Josephine (Hedstrom) Johnson.  He married Doris Swanson on December 24, 1956.  She preceded him in death on March 9, 1990.  He married Barbara Koch on November 23, 1990 in Monmouth.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; two daughters, Diane (and Terry) Steck of Oneida and Jodi (and Kevin) Johnson of Galesburg; a step son, Jeff (and Melissa) Olson of Little York; a step daughter, Jenny (and Jeff) Talley of Galesburg; eight grandchildren, Kelly (and Alex) Borkgren, Megan Steck, Cami (and Ryan) Tapscott, Jenna Johnson, Chad Johnson, Ethan Olson, Bailee Olson, and Morgaine Olson; one great granddaughter, Jayla Borkgren; and a brother, Keith (and Norma) Johnson in California.  In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Kenneth Johnson; and two sisters, Donna Johnson and Loraine Jones.

Larry was a carpenter for 42 years.  He worked for Fox Construction and retired as construction superintendent in 1999.  He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1955.  Larry was a member of Coldbrook Christian Church, where he served as a Deacon.  Larry enjoyed antiquing, metal detecting, and mushroom hunting.  He especially loved his cat, Whiskers.

Larry served in the United States Marine Corps for two years.  He was stationed in the Philippines.

Cremation will be accorded.  Visitation will be 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, February 28, 2016 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel.  Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 29, 2016 at Coldbrook Christian Church with Pastor Rick Warren officiating.  Burial will be 3:00 p.m. Monday in Wataga Cemetery.  Memorial contributions in Larry’s name may be made to Coldbrook Christian Church.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.

Clarence F. “Erick” Erickson

Clarence F. “Erick” Erickson, 93, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 9:50 P.M. Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville, Illinois. 

Clarence was born on January 29, 1923 in Galesburg, Illinois, the son of Karl Victor and Myrtle (Peterson) Erickson.  He was raised and educated in Galesburg and graduated from Galesburg High School.  He married Georgene Olson on July 20 1946 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Galesburg, Illinois. 

Clarence was a salesman for Riden Feed Supply for many years. 

He is survived by his wife, Georgene Erickson of Galesburg, Illinois, and one son, Ron Erickson of Kirksville, Missouri. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Carl Erickson; and two sisters, Gladys Preno and Marion Branam.

Earl A. Wilson

Earl A. Wilson, 81, of Galesburg, died at 10:54 a.m. Thursday, February 25, 2016, in the emergency room of Galesburg Cottage Hospital.

He was born February 3, 1935 in Galesburg, Ill. the son of Robert R. and Anna Mae Talton Wilson.  He married Dorothy G. Mims on August 5, 1967 in Galesburg, Ill..

He is survived by his wife Dorothy; a daughter, Lisa Wilson of Galesburg; a brother James and Shirley Wilson of Aurora, Ill. and grandson Kobe Dickerson of Galesburg.  He was preceded in death by his parents and two sons, Darin L. Wilson January 25, 2014 and Michael E. Wilson in 1996, and two brothers Robert Wilson and Kenneth Wilson.

He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1954, and attended Monmouth College.
Earl was a police officer for the City of Galesburg for 30 years retiring May 1989 as a Lieutenant, he was a private investigator and delivered for HyVee Floral. He taught Law Enforcement at Carl Sandburg College. He was a member of Greater Heights Worship Center, and the Police Benevolent & Protective Association Unit #19. He loved to fish and travel out west.


Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday, March 4, 2016, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel.  Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 5, 2016, at the chapel with Rev. John Mims and Rev. Betty Lou Swigert

Betty Lou Swigert, 85, of Galesburg , died at 9:41 am Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at St. Mary’s Medical Center , Galesburg .
Betty was born on September 29, 1930 in Galesburg , the daughter of Jesse and Isabelle (Young) Jones. She married Willard D. Swigert on October 5, 1947 in Knoxville . He preceded her in death on December 6, 2001 . She is survived by her two sons, Gary of Galesburg and Terry (Luan) of Monmouth; a sister, Shirley Hiler of Kona , Hawaii ; four grandchildren, Amy (Wes) Arteaga of Monmouth, Rebecca (Jeremy) Fenton of Monee, IL, Andrew (Melissa) Swigert of Tulsa, OK, and Rachel Swigert of Monmouth; and, nine great-grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, and a sister, Dorothy.
Betty worked at Sudzy’s Laundromat for a number of years, but what she loved doing the most was being a homemaker and taking care of her family. She was an avid collector of bells, and in her free time she loved to crochet; but, her favorite past time of all was spending time with her family. Betty was full of life and spirit and will be missed by those who love her.  
Per her request, cremation rites will be accorded. A private family graveside service will be held at Linwood Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg . David L. Brittingham

David L. Brittingham, 69, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 3:12 P.M. Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, Illinois. 

David was born on November 21, 1946 in Peoria, Illinois the son of Floyd and Vera (Adams) Brittingham.  He graduated from Costa High School in Galesburg, Illinois.  David married Karen Owens on August 21, 1975 in Galesburg, Illinois.    

David first worked for Gale Products he then went on to work for the City of Knoxville for many years in different departments.  He also owned and operated Britt’s Lawn Service.   

David was a lifetime trap shooter, liked attending auctions, and hunting.  He loved following Galesburg High School and Knoxville High School’s basketball programs.  David  also enjoyed drag racing. 

David is survived by his wife, Karen Brittingham of Galesburg, Illinois; one son, Chad Brittingham of Belle Haven, Virginia; one daughter, Staci Brittingham of Galesburg, Illinois; three grandchildren, Allyson Brittingham of Osco, Illinois, Kyle Brittingham of St. Louis, Missouri, and Ashlee Mechtel of Wisconsin; two great granddaughters, Madyn and Zaylee; one sister, Vivian (Robert) Colley of Galesburg, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Gene Brittingham, and one sister, Delores Henry.

Cynthia K. Palmrose

Cynthia K. Palmrose, age 67, of Knoxville, Illinois died on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at her home in Knoxville, Illinois.

She was born on April 30, 1948 in Galesburg, Illinois the daughter of Carl and Charlotte Nelson Palmrose.

Surviving is an aunt, Pat (John) Kenney of Oquawka, Illinois and an uncle, Dan (Mary) Sullivan of Galesburg, Illinois; three cousins, Danny, Page, and Stacey. She was preceded in death by her parents and a cousin, Penny.

She attended the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida where she received her B.A. in Education. She worked as a substitute teacher for the Miami/Dade County School District from 1997 to 2001, the Galesburg School District #205 from 2001 to 2004, and the Knoxville School District #202 from 2001 to 2004. 

She loved her animals.

Pat Stroops

Pat Stroops age 77 of Bushnell, IL passed away at 9:09 P.M. Tuesday February 23, 2016 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL.  She was born on May 23, 1938 in Chicago, IL to Albert and Mary Johnson Larson.  She married Glen Stroops in Galesburg, IL on April 14, 1955.  Pat is survived by her husband Glen, 1 Son and 3 Daughters – Becky (Gary) Taylor of Avon, IL, Debra Stroops of Phoenix, AZ, Tom (Laura) Stroops of Bushnell, IL and Glenda Gosnell of South Beloit, IL, 8 Grandchildren, 12 Great-Grandchildren and 1 Brother – Albert Larson of Wataga, IL.  She was preceded in death by her Parents, 2 Sisters and 1 Brother.
Pat was a longtime and very active member of the Bushnell Presbyterian Church, and also a member of Grandmothers Club.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday February 29, 2016 at the Bushnell Presbyterian Church with Rev. Melissa M. Frieda M. "Rita" Carlson

Frieda M. "Rita" Carlson, age 95, of Oquawka, Illinois, passed away at 4:05 pm on Monday, February 22, 2016 at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington, Iowa. She was born on October 9, 1920 in Steelville, Missouri, the daughter of J.T. and Josephine (Creek) Ives. She was reared and educated in the Steelville and St. Louis areas. On November 6, 1943, Rita married William E. Carlson in San Diego, CA and he preceded her in death in November, 1971. She was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on July 17, 1956 in Citizens Lake near Monmouth. She dedicated her life to helping people learn a hope from the Bible, God's purpose for the earth and mankind. Rita enjoyed landscaping, decorating, and remodeling homes. She was an excellent seamstress and a particular joy was attending auctions. Frieda loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by on daughter, Kristen (Robert) Harr of Oquawka, IL, three sons; Ron (Elaine) Carlson of Monroe City, MO, Charles (Debra) Carlson and Brian (Linda) Carlson, both of Oquawka, IL, twelve grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. She is also survived by numerous adopted grandchildren. Rita is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Randy Carlson, and two grandchildren, Steven Carlson and Heather Bender.

Mrs. Annabell Hoots

Mrs. Annabell Hoots, 86 of Galesburg, Illinos died Monday February 22, 2016 at 2:00 a.m. at her home.

She was born January 7, 1930 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of Lee and Laura Frances Shaw Daulton. She married Neil E. Hoots on October 20, 1951 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death December 17, 1994.

Annabell is survived by two sons, Charles E. and (Gayle) Hoots of Galesburg and Rick and (Marcia) Hoots of Davenport, Iowa, ten grandchildren, Natomi Hoots, Destan Hoots, Christopher Deets, Nicole Deets, Missy Ann Hoots, Raylyn Allen, Renee Mitchell, Alex Mitchell, Nick Steinbaugh, Amy Kline, six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter Melody Roman, and one brother Charles J. Daulton.

She graduated from Indianapolis High School and Carl Sandburg College. She was an LPN at the Knox County Nursing Home for several years. She was a loving mother and very devoted to her family.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday February 27, 2016 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Gary Bryan officiating. Merle M. Laswell

Merle M. Laswell, age 82, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at the Heartland Health Care Center, Galesburg, Illinois.

He was born on January 8, 1934 in Galesburg, Illinois, the son of Keith and Bernice Aryes Laswell.  He married Bonnie J. Jones on July 8, 1960, in Peoria, Illinois. 

Surviving is his wife, Bonnie J. Laswell of Galesburg, Illinois; his children, Donald “Terry” (Jodie) Hinkle of Champaign, Illinois; Rodger (Denise) Babbitt of Redding, California; and Nancy Jean (D.J.) Martin of Rancho Murieta, California; twelve grandchildren and two step grandchildren and five great grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister. 

He was reared and educated in Galesburg, Illinois.  He served in the United States Navy on Active Duty for twenty three years and the Fleet Reserve for nine years.  He retired on September 1, 1982 as a Chief Boiler Tech.  He was a former member of the Open Bible Church in Galesburg, Illinois.  He was a life member of Alpha Lodge 155 A.F.A.M. and served as Worshipful Master in 1992, 1998, 2002 and 2006.  He was a member of the Mohammed Shrine, Valley of Peoria in Peoria, Illinois. 

Private graveside services were held at Gilson Cemetery where military rites were conducted by VFW 2257 and Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285.  Rev. Dave Scholl officiated. William J. Nichols

William J. Nichols, age 53, of Monmouth, Illinois; passed away at 12:26 am on February 22, 2016 at the Emergency Room of OSF Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth, Illinois. Bill was born on July 25, 1962 in Morning Sun, Iowa and is the son of Gordon D. and Lois Eaton Nichols. He was raised and educated in Alexis and its area schools. He married Kimberly G. Garner on July 12, 2003 in Monmouth, Illinois and she is surviving. Bill began work as a farmhand and worked for Byron Keating, then Gary Jensen, and then for Claire Driscoll. For a number years he cared for yards working for the late, Dart Bowen in Monmouth and then worked for Roger Wilson in the trash hauling business here in Monmouth. Bill also was employed by the local pork plant for a number of years followed by working for the railroad refrigerator services in Galesburg, Illinois. Lastly he owned and operated the 1st Avenue Pub with his wife Kimberly here in Monmouth, Illinois. He loved fishing and camping and taking care of his pets. He enjoyed sports, namely football, baseball, and basketball. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears Fan. Bill loved his grandchildren dearly and them meant everything to him. He is survived by his wife, Kimberly G. Nichols of Monmouth, Illinois and two daughters, Heather (Kevin) Dale of Galesburg, Illinois and Hillary (fiancé Andrew Tatman) Nichols of Monmouth, Illinois. There are five grandchildren. Four sisters survive, Karen (Gene) Sparrow, Donna (Dan) Hallengren, Allena Wilson and Mary Green, all of Monmouth, Illinois, and three brothers, Harry (Katie) Nichols of Berwick, IL, John Nichols, and Dale Nichols, both of Monmouth, Illinois. He is preceded in his death by his parents and two sisters.
A funeral service is planned for 10:00 am on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Interment will be in the Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery. His family plans a visitation and will receive friends at Turnbull Funeral Home on Thursday from 9:00 to 10:00 am prior to the service. Ralph Edwin Strickler

Ralph Edwin Strickler, 88, of Roseville, passed away February 18, 2016 at the Roseville Rehab and Healthcare Center.  He was born on May 29, 1927 in Point Pleasant Township, Warren County Illinois, the son of Ralph O. and Mary (Coghill) Strickler. 

His early schooling was at Booth school near his home in Point Pleasant.  He attended Roseville High School while also farming with his father.  On December 10, 1950 he was united in marriage to Lois M. Anderson at the home of her parents, near Smithshire, Illinois.  In July 1951 he entered the U.S. Army, first being stationed at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas and later at Fr. Still, Oklahoma.  He served a year over-seas in the Korean Conflict.  Upon his discharge he had attained the rank of Sergeant.  After the military, he returned to the family farm.

Edwin enjoyed traveling and taking Sunday afternoon drives, but his greatest interest and passion was being “on the farm.”  He was a member of the Roseville United Methodist Church and the Friendly Mixers couples church group.  He had served as a board member of the Warren County Farm Bureau, served as a director of the Warren County Fair Board and also served as a Stockland F.S. Director.  His uncle introduced him to flying at a young age, a hobby he pursued throughout his life.  He enjoyed his membership in the Monmouth Flying Club for several years.

Surviving are daughter, Kristine (James) Brown of Monmouth and son, Robert (Kim) Strickler of Roseville.  Grandchildren, Lauren Eggen, Jon, Sarah and Brianna Strickler, and step-grandchildren, Keith Brown, Michele Brown and Julie Adcock and eight great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, two sons-David Edwin and Jon Steven Strickler, a grandson-Brian K. Hendel and his two sisters.

Visitation will be Sunday, February 21st at the Roseville Methodist Church from 2:00-4:00 pm.  Funeral services will be held Monday, February 22nd at 10:30 am. at the Roseville Methodist Church.   Burial will be in the Point Pleasant Cemetery.  Memorials may be left to the Point Pleasant Cemetery and/or the Roseville United Methodist Church.  Online condolences may be left at www.wisefamily-hooverhall.com

Helen M. Lustig

Helen M. Lustig, 86 of Roseville, IL, formerly of Effingham, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, February 18, 2016 at Monmouth Nursing Home in Monmouth, IL.

Helen was born July 5, 1929 in Effingham County, the daughter of Ralph and Marguerite (Robertson) Mitchell. She married Arthur Lustig on November 25, 1948, and he preceded her in death in 1985. Helen was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Monmouth. She was former owner/operator of Helen Lustig’s Beauty Shop in Effingham.

Helen is survived by her two daughters Cheryl Lustig of Grand Prairie, TX and Donna (Wood) Stortzum of Roseville;  two brothers Calvin Mitchell of Effingham and Clayton (Diana) Mitchell of Dyersburg,TN; three sisters Freda (Bob) Wallace of Sugar Grove, IL, Verneva Anderson of St. Petersburg, FL, and Marthagene (Dr. Gene) Woody of Texarkana,TX; four grandchildren Troy Tipsword of Peoria, Jennifer (Eugene) Kropff of Mansfield, TX, Dr. Christopher (Lori) Stortzum Macomb, and Jamia (Darren) McDonald of Saunderstown, RI and six great grandchildren, Riley Kropff, Claire Tipsword, Morgan Tipsword, Allison Stortzum, Kathryn Stortzum, and Patrick McDonald.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Shirley Snyder, Beulah Ginder, and Marilyn Rusch.

A funeral mass will be held at10:00 a.m. Monday, February 22, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Effingham with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday evening at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham with a rosary at 3:45 pm. Memorials may be made to Monmouth Nursing Home or Immaculate Conception Church. Patricia J. Talley

Patricia J. Talley, 68, of Monmouth, passed away at 9:07 a.m., Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.

Pat was born March 17, 1947 in Monmouth IL, the daughter of Dale and Betty (McGee) Albert.  She was raised and educated in Monmouth attending Monmouth High School.

Pat married Johnny Talley in Cameron, IL in July 1986 and he died in November 1996.

Pat worked as a line worker at Maytag in Galesburg for over 20 years before retiring.  She also worked at Monmouth College in the Food Services Dept. for 8 years.

She enjoyed cooking, spending time with her family and watching movies. Her grandchildren were her life and she loved attending their many activities.

Survivors include her daughter, Tammy Lefort of Monmouth; granddaughter, Jessica Pettett of Monmouth; step granddaughter, Sara (Pettett) Bayless of Roseville, IL; step great grandchildren, Bradley Sheehan, Michelle Sheehan, Aunna Sheehan and Kayne Bayless all of Roseville; half-sister, Connie (Diane) Barber of Granite City, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 22, 2016 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth.  Interment will be at Warren County Memorial Park.  Visitation will be from 3:00-5:00 p.m. Sunday, February 21, 2016 at the funeral home.  Memorials may be given to the Pat Talley Memorial Fund. Kenneth H. "Whitey" "Shorty" Wilson

Kenneth H. "Whitey" "Shorty" Wilson, age 77, of Monmouth, Illinois; passed away at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at 1:43 am. Kenneth was born on October 28, 1938 in Monmouth, Illinois and is the son of Charles S. and Vera G. Kilpatrick Wilson. He was raised in Monmouth where he attended school and the Monmouth High School. Whitey married Phyllis C. Sedwick on November 25, 1960 in Monmouth, Illinois and she is surviving. Shorty began work when he was nine years old and worked for Clarence Trotter at the Monmouth Country Club where he was grounds keeper and more. He was employed at Maytag Corporation in Galesburg for forty-one years until his retirement. Kenny loved to play golf and was a member of Gibson Woods Golf Course. He loved to play Lotto and enjoyed woodworking at his home. He was always considered "the favorite Uncle " by his family and loved to ride his scooter. His family and grandchildren were always foremost. Shorty is survived by his wife, Phyllis C. Wilson of Monmouth, Illinois and two daughters, Jody (John) Henderson of Reno, Nevada and Cindy Wilson of Owasso, Oklahoma. There are seven grandchildren, Samantha Cheek, Alexis Crosier, Micheal Crosier, Landen Crosier, Ryan (Megan) Cheek, John (Megan) Henderson Jr. and Hunter Henderson. Two sisters, Ella Hank and Karen Cassiday both of Monmouth, IL, two brothers, Glenn Wilson of Monmouth, IL and Louis Wilson of Logan, Georgia. Numerous nieces and nephews are also surviving. He is preceded in his death by his parents, two sisters, and five brothers.
A funeral service will be on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at 11:00 am at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, IL. Interment will be in Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery of Monmouth. His family plans visitation and will receive their friends at Turnbull Funeral Home on Monday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. A memorial fund is being established for either Faith United Presbyterian Church or the Future Golfers Association of Gibson Woods Golf Course. Ronald Stambaugh

Abingdon – Ronald Ervin “Stash” Stambaugh, 75 of Abingdon, passed away at 9:34 p.m. Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
He was born August 14, 1940 in Beardstown, the son of Ervin “Pistol” and Etha Alice Mohlenbruck Stambaugh.

Stash is survived by three sons, Joe (Sarah) Stambaugh of Beason, Doug (Stacy) Stambaugh of Galesburg and Toby Stambaugh of Abingdon; three grandsons, TJ (Amber) Stambaugh of Berwick, William Ervin Stambaugh of Beason and Logan Douglas Stambaugh of Galesburg; one great-grandson, Toby Michael Stambaugh III of Berwick; one sister, Fairy Stambaugh of Abingdon; three brothers, William (Janice) Stambaugh of rural Galesburg, Walter Stambaugh of Galesburg and Alfred Stambaugh; and Jack.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Ron lived in Abingdon and graduated from Abingdon High School. He was an
Electrician and worked for Burlington Northern, OMC and Briggs Manufacturing as a Maintenance Supervisor. He was of the protestant faith and was baptized at the Methodist Church in Abingdon. He was a member of the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381 Sons of American Legion.  He served as Fourth Ward Alderman for the City of Abingdon. His hobbies included toy collecting, hunting, and fishing, and attending his grandsons events. He was an avid Chicago Bears fan.

The family honored Ron’s request to allow him to participate in the Gift of Hope Donor Program. As he requested, cremation will be accorded. To celebrate his life, the family will receive relatives and friends on February 28, from 1-3pm at the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381 in Abingdon.
Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
