Sandra J. Crosier

Sandra J. Crosier, 78 of Roseville, IL, passed away Friday October 28, 2016, 1:46 a.m. at her home.  She was born Saturday June 18, 1938 in Monmouth, IL the Daughter of Ralph J. and Grace E. (Johnson) Johnson.  She married Robert H. Crosier on June 16, 1957 in Monmouth, IL.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband Robert H. Crosier of Roseville, IL; daughters Laurie (Dan) Loy of Ames, IA and Marcy (Kevin) Koller of Monmouth, IL; son Chad Crosier of Monmouth, IL; 7 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, and 1 sister.

Sandy loved her role of caregiver, wife, mother and grandmother.  She was also a babysitter and loved pets of all kinds.  She was a member of the Red Hats, UMW, WSCS, and the Woman’s Club.  She enjoyed reading and crocheting.

Pamela Kay Hubbard

Pamela Kay Hubbard, age 54, of Stronghurst, Illinois, passed away at 11:05 p.m. Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington, Iowa. She was born June 8, 1962 in Burlington, Iowa, the daughter of Leslie and Nola Bigger Talbott. On November 25, 1989, she married Bryan Hubbard in Lomax, Illinois.

Pam was a 1980 graduate of Southern High School in Stronghurst. For the past 19 years, she worked as a clerk for F&M Bank & Trust in Burlington. Prior to that, she was employed at the Henderson County Health Department for seven years. She loved cooking and baking, spending time with her family and friends, volunteering, and "paying it forward" to her community. She was a member of the Lomax Christian Church.

Survivors include her husband, two daughters, Morgan (Austin) Lewis of Kirkwood, IL, Abby Hubbard of Stronghurst, her mother of Media, IL, two sisters, Tammy (Mike) Martin of Moline, IL, Chris (Frank) Lung of Media, IL, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, and her in-laws, Quentin and Luella Hubbard.

Visitation will be from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Saturday, October 29th, at West Central Junior High School Gymnasium in Stronghurst. The funeral service will be Sunday, October 30th, at 2:00 p.m. at the school, with Rev. Karna Peterson officiating. Burial will be in the Walnut Grove Cemetery near Media. Rebecca “Becky” Ann Jones

Rebecca “Becky” Ann Jones, 64, of Galesburg, died peacefully at Seminary Manor on October 25, 2016 at 6:17 a.m. after a courageous 8 year battle with cancer.
Becky was born January 13, 1952 in Galesburg, the daughter of Howard and Donna Oberheizer Alexander. She married Michael A. Jones on November 14, 1970 in Galesburg. Becky is survived by her husband of 45 years, Mike of Galesburg; two sons, Tim (Janae) Jones of Littleton, CO and Brian Jones of Galesburg; her mother, Donna Alexander of Galesburg; six grandchildren, Brittaney, Brandon, Anthony, Mariah, Christopher and Katie and a great grandson, Landon Isaiah. She was preceded in death by her father and her step father, Percy Alexander.
Becky worked as a sales manager for Sandhill Scientific for 30 years, retiring in 2013. Becky loved being outdoors. Her and Mike spent many years camping in Wisconsin. She enjoyed fishing, loved roses, and tending to her flowers at home. She enjoyed crocheting and needlework. Becky also had a love for horses and had attended Northwoods Community Church.
Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Pastor Stephen Descalzo will officiate. A celebration of life will follow the services at the Thomas Legacy Center. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Meryline Katherine Jones

Meryline Katherine Jones, went to be with the Lord Jesus on October 23, 2016. She resided in Rosewood Care Center, Galesburg.
She was born in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, the only daughter of Gottlieb and Katherine (Veller) Goldmann. She has one brother, Allen Goldmann of Twin Falls, Idaho.
She married Walter A. Jones in Sheboygan, WI on September 1, 1956. They had 4 children; Michael R. Jones of Martinez, CA, Katherine A. (Jim) Thompson of Licking, MO, Robert J. Jones of Martinez, Ca, and Pamela J. Jones-Fraser of San Diego, CA. She also has 5 grandchildren; Christopher, Michelle, Jennifer, James, and Thea; 8 great grandchildren; Kierra, C.J., Tyler, Kaiya, Mason, James, Izaiah, and Elijah. Meryline was preceded in death by her parents and her husband on October 28, 1980.
Meryline was a beautiful loving wife and mother. She was a homemaker, gourmet cook and nutritionist. She loved sewing, camping, and singing. They raised their children in Elk Grove Village, IL. They then moved to Galesburg then to Concord, CA. She came back to Galesburg 10 years after her husband’s death; where she called home. She was a member of the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church and was involved in lots of groups over the years.
Cremation and private gathering with her family only will be at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Ettajane Pullen

Ettajane Pullen, 84, of Monmouth, IL died at 5:35 a.m. Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at the Heartland Health Care Center, Galesburg.

She was born November 21, 1931 in Tuscola, IL, the daughter of John and Minnie Dell (Ritchey) Jones. She was raised and educated in Arcola, IL where she graduated from Arcola High School in 1949. Ettajane graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 1953 with a Teaching Degree and later earned a Master’s Degree of Education from Western Illinois University in 1982.

Ettajane first taught in Farmer City before teaching Army families in Panama. She raised her family at home for a period of time before returning to teach special reading at Harding School in Monmouth before retiring in 1997.

She volunteered at Teddy Bear Child Development Center and Preschool in Monmouth. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, her dogs, and gardening.

Survivors include her children, Gary (Denise) Pullen of Monmouth and Michelle Pullen of Rock Island, IL; her grandchildren, Catrina Pullen and Drew Pullen both of Monmouth and Whitney Pullen (Seth) Eberhardt of Mediapolis, IA; 3 great grandchildren; nephews, David (Rosie) Breedlove of Arthur, IL and Richard Breedlove of Arcola, IL; special friends, Hazel Murphy of Monmouth and Tiera Stone of Galesburg.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters and 1 infant brother.

Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Warren County Memorial Park, Monmouth. Visitation will be Saturday morning from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth. Sherrill Jane Nelson

Sherrill Jane Nelson, 74, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 10:15 am Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at Unity Point Health-Methodist Peoria, Illinois.
She was born July 4, 1942 in Avon, Illinois the daughter of Francis Ray and Mary Ann Crabill Nelson.

She is survived by her brother, Rex (Darlene) Nelson of Albuquerque, New Mexico; two sisters, Karen Schmidt of Byron, Minnesota and Carol Rogers of Alexandria, Minnesota and several nieces and nephews. Sherrill is preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, Ruth Whitney, Louise Butts, Marion Nelson, Marceline Curtis and three brothers, Aden Leslie, Harold and Francis Nelson.

She was raised in Abingdon and graduated from Abingdon High School in 1962. She was a very active member of the Bethany Baptist Church. Sherrill was baptized in the Abingdon Christian Church. She loved riding her bicycle around town and was an avid doll collector. Sherrill enjoyed spending time with her friends and family.

Graveside services are scheduled for 10:30 am Saturday October 29, 2016 at Abingdon Cemetery. Rev. John Carlson will officiate. Diane K. “Mouth” Johnson

Diane K. “Mouth” Johnson, 64, of Kirkwood, IL, passed away at 6:07 p.m., Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Unity Point Health Methodist Hospital, Peoria, IL.

She was born January 21, 1952 in Rock Island, IL the daughter of Harold and Donna (Ubben) Brighton.  She was raised and educated in Chicago Heights, IL.

Diane married Bradley Johnson in Kirkwood, IL on January 31, 1970 and he survives.

Diane worked at the Super America Gas Station in Monmouth for many years.  She later worked for Advance America in Galesburg and most recently the Ayerco Station in Monmouth.  Diane loved to go shopping, and enjoyed reading.  She was known for her sassy outgoing personality.  Most of all, Diane loved to spend time with her family and friends. 

Surviving Diane is her husband, Brad Johnson of Kirkwood, two daughters; Teresa (Chad) Parrish of Gladstone, IL, Shannon (Phil) Davis of Douds, IA, one son Bradley “BJ” Johnson of Kirkwood, grandchildren; Emily (Dan), Marissa, Abby, Ceyda, Kenan, and Iva.  Also surviving is one great grandson Brayden “Duke”, and special friends; Robin Lybarger and Penny Stephenson. 

She was preceded in death by her grandmother Iva Ubben, who was a very special influence in her life, her parents, and one brother. 

Cremation rites have been accorded.  A Celebration of Life will be at 1:00-3:00 p.m., Saturday, October 29, 2016 at the Monmouth V.F.W. Glenn H. Johnson

Glenn H. Johnson, age 81 of rural Maquon, Illinois died at 4:10 P.M. on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at Seminary Manor, Galesburg, Illinois.

He was born on December 19, 1934 in Oak Hill, Illinois the son of Henry and Lois McKown Johnson. He married Phyllis Davis on October 2, 1964 in Yates City, Illinois.

Surviving are two daughters: Diane Johnson of Galesburg, Illinois and Sheryl (Bret) Weaver of Canton, Illinois; two grandchildren: Corey and Cyle LaFollett; two brothers: Paul (Bonnie) Johnson of Maquon, Illinois and Earle Johnson of Maquon, Illinois; He was preceded in death by his parents.
He farmed all his life in Maquon, Illinois, during this time he also worked at the former Strode Garage for a short time. He served in the United States Army Reserves. He was a member of the Peoria County Farm Bureau. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his grandsons.

Graveside Memorial Services will be held on Sunday, October 30, 2016 at 2 pm at the Elmwood Cemetery in Elmwood, Illinois with the Rev. Krey Leesman officiating. Family and friends are both invited to attend the Graveside Memorial Service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Maquon Fire Department. Barbara Mae Potts

Barbara Mae Potts, 76, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 1:50 A.M. Saturday, October 22, 2016 at her home with her children by her side.
 
She was born on May 5, 1940 in Oakland California, the daughter of Edward William and Eva Mae (Bower) Morse.  She was raised and educated in Galesburg, Illinois and attended Galesburg Schools.  Barbara married Merlin Charles Potts on February 17, 1957 at the First Church of God in Galesburg, Illinois.  He preceded her in death on May 4, 2006.   
 
Barbara was a loving wife and mother.  She loved taking care of her plants and animals, especially her dog Queenie who was her world.  Barbara was also a talented artist.  
 
Barbara is survived by three sons, Randy (Angie) Potts of Dahinda, Illinois, Keith “Butch” Potts of Phenix City, Alabama, Kevin Potts of Galesburg, Illinois; one daughter, Amanda (Rod) Wagher of Knoxville, Illinois; 14 grandchildren, Doris, Larry, Richard, Tori, Colton, Jacob, Candys, Christopher, Charles, Kasey, Chad, Cody, Joshua, and Samantha; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; one brother, Richard (Erlene) Morse of Galesburg, Illinois; and one sister, Madeline Seeman of St. Paul, Minnesota. 
 
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. 
 
 
Per her wishes cremation rites will be accorded and no services planned.  Barbara will be laid to rest with her beloved dog Queenie.  Memorials may be made to the Knox County Humane Society or to Guardian Angels. Constance Earlene Yardley Kohl

Constance Earlene Yardley Kohl, 70, of Galesburg, died at 5:18 p.m. Thursday, October 20, 2016 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital, surrounded by her daughter and loving family.
Earlene was born March 1, 1946 in Chillicothe, MO.  After graduating high school she earned her Licensed Practical Nurse degree and worked as an LPN while living in Missouri.  After she moved to Galesburg, Earline had a 30 year career at Maytag, retiring in 2004.  She attended First Baptist Church in Galesburg.  She enjoyed being outdoors, especially fishing.  Earlene was an excellent athlete while in school.
Earlene is survived by her daughter with whom she shared her home, Angela Kohl of Galesburg; a son, Jeffrey Kohl of Texas; and three grandchildren, Max, McKenna, and Dakota.  She was preceded in death by her mother, Betty Jean Yardley.
Graveside funeral services will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Milan, MO on.  Visitation will be at Lindley Funeral Home in Chillicothe, MO.  No local services are planned.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.  Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.  Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com.

Peter “Pete” Creighton

Peter “Pete” Creighton, 91, of Galesburg, died peacefully surrounded by his children, Friday, October 21, 2016 at Seminary Manor, Galesburg.
Pete was born February 17, 1925 in Galesburg, the son of Walter B. and Mary Allensworth Creighton. He married Marie Therese Padilla in 1960 in Guadalajara. She preceded him in death on June 21, 2010. Pete is survived by two sons, John-Peter (Susan) Creighton of Cary and George Creighton of Henderson; two daughters, Margaret (Nick) Garcia-Creighton of St. Paul, MN and Carol Creighton of Galesburg; and one sister, Rosemary Swise of Galesburg. Pete is also survived by seven grandchildren, Mike, Elizabeth, Hannah, Garrett, Carolyn, Ana, and Claire. Along with his wife and parents, Pete was preceded in death by one brother, James.
Pete attended Knox College and graduated from Colorado College in 1949. At the age of nine, Pete started working for the Galesburg Evening Post. He worked his way through the ranks of the newspaper, eventually becoming editor/publisher in 1959 and remained in that position until he retired in 1997. Pete was drafted into the US Army serving in WWII. He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church.
Visitation will be 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Rev. Guadalupe F. Alvarado

Guadalupe F. Alvarado, 86, of Galesburg, died peacefully at 3:15 p.m. Thursday October 20, 2016 at home surrounded by his family.
Lupe was born May 31, 1930 in Watsonville, CA, the son of Primitibo R. and Loreto Fonseca Alvarado. He married Isidora Chavarria on July 29, 1956 in Francisco y Madero, Coahuila, Mexico. Lupe is survived by his wife of 60 years, Isidora of Galesburg; 8 sons, Miguel G. (Sanjuanita) Alvarado, Pablo (Cynthia) Alvarado, Jose Guadalupe C. Alvarado, Juan Manuel C. Alvarado, Estevan C. (Linda) Alvarado, Cesario C. Alvarado all of Galesburg, Jose Luiz C. (Colette) Alvarado of Gilson, and Antonio C. (Ginny) Alvarado of Springfield, OH; 2 daughters, Bernardina C. Alvarado-Rubio and Teresa C. Alvarado-Ward both of Galesburg: two sisters, Teresa (Marcos) Alberto of Mexico, and Angela(Wakeen) Yount of Utah; and a special niece, Amalia (Michael) Alberto-Bailey all of Galesburg; 26 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Ignacio; and one grandson, James Alvarado.
Lupe worked 38 years as a section foreman for C.B.&Q. and later for Burlington Northern Railroad. He was a longtime member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way; NRA, and the North American Hunting Club. He was an avid gardener, loved hunting, especially deer, music, dancing, and singing. Lupe had a love for feeding the squirrels in his yard.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. The rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Galesburg. Rev. William T. Miller, IC will officiate. Floyd E. “Hot Dog” Shinn

Floyd E. “Hot Dog” Shinn, 86, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 10:04 am Friday, October 21, 2016 at his home.

He was born October 24, 1929 in Herman, Illinois the son of Charles and Myrtle M. Barton. He married Lelia Asbury on March 8, 1952 in Galesburg. She preceded him in death on April 4, 2012.

He is survived by his two sons, Don Shinn and Chuck (Kris Busch) Shinn both of Galesburg; his daughter, Nancy (Dale) Johnson of Galesburg; ten grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one son, Gene Shinn, one daughter, Patty Lamb, his brother, Ralph Shinn and his sister, Eleanor Henderson.

Floyd served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was awarded the Purple Heart.

Floyd worked for Maytag Corporation for 27 ½ years. He was a former member of the Horsheshoe Club. He was an avid Cub fan and enjoyed golfing.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 1:00 pm Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. David Scholl will officiate. Visitation will be 12 Noon-1:00 pm Tuesday at the chapel. Lindsey Erin Cooper

Lindsey Erin Cooper, 31, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 12:33 pm Thursday, October 13, 2016 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, Illinois.

She was born February 3, 1985 in Burlington, Iowa the daughter of Ronald D. and Laurie L. Albert Cooper.

Lindsey is survived by her parents, Ronald D. and Laurie L. Cooper of Galesburg; her brother, Ryan L. (Kim Clyden-Cooper) Cooper of Kankakee/Bourbonnais, Illinois; her nephew, Keegan Cooper; her grandfather, Roy N. Cooper, Sr. and her grandmother, Betty C. Albert both of Galesburg. She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Edna Cooper and K. Wendell Albert and her uncle, Roy N. Cooper, Jr.

Lindsey had attended Galesburg school and Carl Sandburg College. She was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church. Lindsey enjoyed playing and watching basketball, volleyball and running track. She enjoyed spending time with her family. Lindsey was a “daddy’s girl”, spending time with her dad fishing and hunting for morel mushrooms.

William E. “Hobie” Gilman

William E. “Hobie” Gilman, age 75, of East Galesburg, Illinois died at 4:18 A.M. on Friday, October 21, 2016 at his home.

He was born on November 23, 1940 in Ottumwa, Iowa the son of William A. and Bertha O. Hart Gilman. He attended and graduated from Ottumwa High School. He married Mary J. Merchant on October 16, 1962 in Ottumwa, Iowa. She preceded him in death on January 9, 1997. He later married Diane G. Montgomery on Sept. 19, 1998 in East Galesburg, Illinois.

Surviving is his wife: Diane Gilman of East Galesburg, Illinois; one son, Barry (Amy) Gilman of Platte City, Missouri; two daughters: Becky Gilman of Madison, Wisconsin, and Shannon Thompson of Kansas City, Missouri; two step-sons: Aaron (Anne) Hudson of Martinsville, Indiana and Joshua Hudson of Illinois; six grandchildren: Bryce, Brayden, Ella, Shane, Hayley, and Jake; five step-grandchildren; one sister, Becky Hartley of Marengo, Iowa; one niece, Melissa; and a daughter-in-law: Jackie Friemel of Bettendorf, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother-in-law, Richard.

He began working for the CB&Q Railroad in 1962, then the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad, he retired after 39 years of service as an engineer in 2001.
He was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Galesburg, Illinois and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers Union. He enjoyed golfing and socializing with friends and family.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 23, 2016 from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes & Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday October 24, 2016 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes & Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois, with Rev. Phyllis Sterr officiating. Mark James Hungerford

Mark James Hungerford, age 59 of rural Gladstone, Illinois passed away Tuesday October 18, 2016, following a courageous battle with Multiple System Atrophy (MSA). He was born January 17, 1957 in Osage, Iowa, the son of Charles and Neva Furman Hungerford. In 1977, he married Lori Gingrich. They later divorced. On October 5, 2002, he married Cyndi Dodd in Clear Lake, Iowa.

Mr. Hungerford was the owner/operator of Hungerford Trucking Company for 28 years. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force from 1975 until 1979, serving in Germany, Alaska and Nebraska. He then farmed near Blue Hill, Nebraska for a few years and entered the trucking business in 1985. He served a second tour in the Air National Guard from 1990 until 1993, and then resumed his trucking business. In 1994, he moved to West Burlington, Iowa and transported groceries for Aldi Food, until his failing health forced his early retirement. He met his wife, Cindy, in Mason City, Iowa, where she was managing the Aldi store there. In August of 2003, he and Cindy moved to their present home and acreage near Gladstone.

Mark enjoyed woodworking, and doing any project outdoors. He loved his family, his faithful dog "Harley", and riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle. He was a member of the American Legion Post #3 of Lincoln, Nebraska and the Antique Motorycle Club of America.

Survivors include his loving wife, Cyndi, one daughter- Nikki Schulte of Hastings, NE, one step son, Travis (Tami) Dodd of Mason City, IA, one step daughter, Mandy (Ron) Wise, also of Mason City, six grandchildren, Rylee Schulte, Mia Dodd, Trey, Trent, Lily and Dominic Wise, two brothers, Tim Hungerford of Danville, IA, Todd (Tina) Hungerford of Sierra Vista, AZ, and one sister, Ann Kienzle of Riceville, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mary Mackelprang.

A visitation will be held from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. Saturday October 22, 2016 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst, Illinois. A second visitation will be held Monday October 24, 2016 from Noon until 2:00 p.m. at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, Iowa, followed by graveside services, with military rites in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Osage. Lois G. McIntyre

Lois G. McIntyre, age 93, of Oquawka, Illinois, passed away at 1:30 AM on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at her residence. She was born on January 25, 1923 in Walkon, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Maude (Miller) Fuller. She was reared and educated in the Walkon School District. Lois attended Union College. On August 14, 1944, she married Wendell L. McIntyre and he preceded her in death on March 11, 1999. Lois began work as an LPN at the Mercer County Nursing Home and later at the Park Manor Nursing Home in Burlington, Iowa. She lastly worked with her daughter at Plants Plus for over 30 years. She loved flowers, crocheting, and her many cat friends. Lois is survived by two daughters; Beverly (Ernie) Dukes of Hendersonville, NC and Barbara Hucke of Oquawka, IL, three sons; Barney (Cindy) McIntyre of Cordova, IL, Berney McIntyre of Oquawka, IL, and Ben McIntyre of Oquawka, IL, two sisters, Ester Trial of Piedmont, MO and Helen McIntyre of Portland, OR. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and two sisters.
A funeral service is planned for 10:30 AM on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, Illinois. Bernita Fern Aringdale

Bernita Fern Aringdale, 96, of Round Lake Beach, IL formerly of Avon, IL passed away on October 17, 2016 at 10:15 PM at Hillcrest Retirement Village in Round Lake Beach, IL. She was born September 7, 1920 in Kewanee, IL to Ernest and Iola (Thompson) Beaston. She married J.L. Stenson on July 19, 1941 and later married Loyd “Red” Aringdale Jr. on August 21, 1953. He preceded her in death September 4, 2006.
She is survived by one daughter, Suzanne (Jerry) Ewalt of Galesburg, IL and one granddaughter, Kelly (James) DiDonato of Round Lake Beach, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and one sister.

She worked for the former Luper Manufacturing of Avon; Blue Bell Manufacturing Co. and Adcock Dry Cleaning both of Abingdon; and Coast to Coast of Bushnell. She was a member of the Avon United Methodist Church. Bernita was a very loving person, she enjoyed baking pies and cakes for her husband, friends and especially local children.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday October 20, 2016  at the Corman Memorial Home in Avon, IL where visitation will be two hours prior to services. Rodney Bryant Bowen

Rodney Bryant Bowen, 67 of Raritan, IL passed away Monday October 17, 2016, 8:36 p.m. at his home.  He was born Tuesday November 9, 1948 in Burlington, IA the son of Wendal and Luella "Sis" (Link) Bowen.  He married  Ruby Ann Overstreet on July 11, 9171 in Raritan, IL.

He was the father of two children Danielle Elizabeth (Tim) Bowen Matthews of Washington, IL and Garrett Wayne Bowen of Raritan, IL; he was the grandfather of six grandkids, Ember Nicole (Nathan) Bowen of Kirkwood, IL, Jesslyn Ann Sours of Monmouth, IL Skyler Bryant Sours of Media, IL, Lacey Michelle, William Bryant, and Lilly Ann Bowen all of Raritan, IL; his great grandchildren Aydenn Michael, and Jentry Bryant of Kirkwood, IL; one sister Patricia Ann Bowen of Media, IL.

He was a fan of all sports, he loved playing cards and playing pool and was on several leagues.  He also owned and showed quarter horses, winning high point halter classes of Des Moines Co. Club.  He helped with the clubs annual Registered Quarter Horse Shows and loved showing his horse Dude.  He loved being with family and friends.  He was a little League coach for 4 years for RMS when Garrett was playing, and he helped with his grandson Skyler's 3 on 3 basketball at Roseville, IL.

Cremation rites have been accorded.  The family will receive friends and family Friday eve October 21, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Raritan Reformed Church.  Memorials may be made in his memory. Russell W. "R.C." Calkins

Russell W. "R.C." Calkins, age 57, of Oquawka, Illinois, passed away at 00:05 AM on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington, Iowa. He was born on December 28, 1958 in Galesburg, Illinois, the son of Eli W. and Deanna R. (Williamson) Calkins III. Russell attended elementary school in Wataga, IL. and graduated from Galesburg High School. On June 6, 1998, he married Alice L. Olson in Oquawka, IL and she is surviving. Russell worked for 30 years for the City of Galesburg where he was a supervisor at the Water Department. He had also worked for the Wataga Water Department and the Oquawka Water Department. Russell loved to hunt, go fishing, ride his Harley Davidson motorcycle, and raise German Shorthair Pointers. He was a handyman; able to fix and repair just about anything. Russell is survived by his wife Alice of Oquawka, IL, his parents, two sons; Jacob (Rachel) Calkins of Springbay, IL and Christopher (Kelsey) Calkins of Panama City, FL, one sister, Jeanne (Dean) Blust of Monmouth, IL, and one brother, Tim (Vicki) Calkins of Wataga, IL. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Stephen B. Baker

Stephen B. Baker, 60, of Galesburg, died at 5:52 a.m. Wednesday, October 12, 2016 in Keosauqua, IA.
He was born on March 19, 1956 in Keosauqua, IA the son of Charles A. Baker and Evelyn Joan Phillips. He married Reanna G. Rogers on February 4, 2016 in Galesburg. He is survived by his wife, Reanna of Galesburg; his mother, Joan of Galesburg; two sons, Bryan (Emily) Baker of Puyallup, WA and Shawn Baker of Abingdon; two daughters, Courtney Payne of Galesburg and Gracie Hoffman of Galesburg; five brothers, Mike Baker, Steve Baker, Rick Baker, Michael Newbold, and Monty Newbold; and two sisters, Bonita and Jodie Crouch. He is also survived by 9 granchildren and one great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his father.
Steve served in the US Army. He had been working for the past 11 years at John Deere. He enjoyed being outdoors, whether it be yard work, fishing, or playing with Grace in the backyard. He was a member of UAW Local 865.
Cremation rites will be accorded. No services are planned at this time. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Phillip E. Myers

Phillip E. Myers, 86, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 12:52 am Thursday, October 18, 2016 at Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville, Illinois.

He was born September 25, 1930 in Galesburg the son of Earl and Vera Larson Myers. He married Jane Kemmitt on February 24, 1950 in Galesburg.

Surviving is his wife, Jane, of 66 years; two sons, Tom (Deb) Myers of Knoxville and Tim (Karen) Myers of Riverton, Illinois; five grandchildren, Toby (Terrah) Myers of Knoxville, Angie Myers (Mike) Brown of East Peoria, Illinois and Derek, Denise and Danielle Myers of Riverton; four great grandchildren, Trevor and Teegan Myers and Karter and Jaxson Brown; several nieces and nephews; two sisters, Kathryn Judson and Margaret Curry, and two sisters-in-laws, Ruth Pecsi and Marie Myers. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Harlan Myers.

Phil graduated from Galesburg High School in 1948. While in high school he was active in FFA (Future Farmers of America). After graduation Phil married Jane Kemmitt and went to work for the Victor Casket Hardware. He then worked for the Burlington Truck Lines as a rate clerk dock man and also worked on the dock for Dohrn Transfer Trucking. He was a truck driver for Rite Way Disposal and lastly Westtown Trucking, retiring in 1997.

He was very active with his sons in 4H showing beef cattle at county fairs. Phil was a hobby farmer, raising chickens, rabbits and beef cattle.

Phil served on the Knoxville Zoning board of appeals. He was a Knoxville City Councilman for 8 years from 1993-2001. He was the Knoxville mayor for 8 years from 2001-2009. He was the President of the Galesburg Antique Car Club and owned several antique cars.

Phil was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church serving on the church council two terms. He volunteered to mow the church cemetery weekly for many years. He was a member of the Knoxville Historical Society. For many years, Phil set up a beautiful Christmas light display in their front yard on the Knoxville hard road.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 am Friday, October 21, 2016 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Michel Clark will officiate. Frances Viola (Van Sickle) Cox

Frances Viola (Van Sickle) Cox, 96, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 5:00AM Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the Heartland Health Care Center, Galesburg.
She was born on January 19, 1920 in La Crosse, Wisconsin to Clifton and Christine Sanding Van Sickle. She married Walker M. Cox in Wayland, Missouri on June 21, 1941. He preceded her in death on May 27, 2012. At that time they had been married for 71 years.
Frances is survived by three sons, Steven (and Ann) Cox of Macomb, Illinois, Courtney (and Donna) Cox of Monmouth, Illinois and Andrew (and Connie) Cox of Galesburg; a daughter, Christine (and Joe) Russo of Galesburg; ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded by a brother and four sisters.
Frances worked in food service with the Galesburg C.U.S.D. 205 for 10 years retiring on November 1, 1981. She was a 1938 graduate of La Crosse Central High School and attended the State Teachers College in La Crosse.
She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Galesburg First Presbyterian Church for over 50 years.

Hazel B. Francis

Hazel B. Francis, age 78 of Taylor Ridge, Illinois, formerly of Raritan, Illinois, died at 12:15 p.m. Saturday October 15, 2016 at her home. She was born September 22, 1938 in Burlington, Iowa, the daughter of Russell and Mala Calhoun Brokaw. On January 22, 1961, she married Marion C. Smith. He preceded her in death on June 9, 1964. On May 22, 1966, she married Milo D. "Mike" Francis in Kirkwood, Illinois. He preceded her in death on October 12, 2006.

Mrs. Francis lived most of her married life near Raritan, moving to Taylor Ridge in 2010. She was a homemaker and had worked at Country Fun Restaurant and Bowling Center near Biggsville for several years. She also worked for the Review Atlas Newspaper in Monmouth for a few years. She was a graduate of Media-Wever High School in Media, Illinois.
 
Hazel was an avid bowler and was a member of the Western Illinois Bowling Congress. She was also a member of the Warren County Saddle Club.

Survivors include three daughters, Barbara (Michael Anderson) Cole of Owatonna, MN, Mary (Shawn) Strachan of Reynolds, IL, Ann Danner of Oneida, IL, seven grandchildren, Daniel and Jessica Cole, Carrie and Chloe Strachan, and Emma, Erin, and Erica Danner, Several brothers and sisters in law, including Alice Brokaw of Stronghurst, Marilyn (Dick) Jackson of Berwick, IL, Richard (Thelma) Smith of LaHarpe, IL and Judy (William) Burt, also of LaHarpe.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, parents, two brothers, Lawrence and William Brokaw, and five sisters, Ethel Mala Kirkland, Ruth Brokaw, Helen Heikes, Carolyn White, and Frances Wells.

The funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday October 20, 2016 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst . Burial will follow in the Raritan Cemetery. Dona Marie Moon

Dona Marie Moon, 88, of Galesburg and formerly of Abingdon, passed away at 2:50 p.m. Friday, October 14, 2016 at the OSF St. Mary Medical Center Emergency Room in Galesburg.
  She was born June 15, 1928 in Abingdon, the daughter of Howard E. and Portia M. Simpson Davis.  She married Mark A. Moon on October 5, 1947 at the Abingdon Christian Church.
  Dona is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Mark; her children, Michael (Nancy) Moon of Clarkston, Michigan, Virginia (Bob) Nott of Abingdon, Chuck (Mary) Moon of Burlington, North Carolina and Kay (Terry) Clemans of Medinah; three grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; her siblings, Jim (Roberta) Davis of Abingdon and Loris (Bernard) Sherman in the state of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews and their families.
  She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Alden Davis and one sister, Karen Heck.
  Dona was a lifelong resident of Abingdon.  She attended Abingdon schools and was a cheerleader at Abingdon High School, where she graduated in 1946.  She was very active throughout her life and in early married days she and her husband enjoyed square dancing.  She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, always putting her family and their needs first before her own.  She was a Cub Scout den mother, member of bridge club, bowling leagues, and collector of Abingdon pottery.  After retirement in 1990 from her banking career of 28 years, she volunteered at Hedding Grade School in Abingdon in the reading program for 14 years.  For many years, she shared her talents with her loving family from baking their favorite pies to gifting them one of her sewing creations.  She was a member of the Abingdon Christian Church.  She was a premier example of Christianity, strength, and love.  To say that she will be missed is a complete understatement.
  Cremation will be accorded.  To celebrate her life, a memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at the Abingdon Christian Church, 409 S. Main St. with Rev Darryl McDaniel officiating.  A time of fellowship with the family will follow the service..

Terrence J. “Terry” Foockle

Terrence J. “Terry” Foockle, 80, of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 11:10 a.m., Friday, October 14, 2016 at his home. 

He was born March 1, 1936 in Peru, IL the son of Robert Frank and Elenore (Urbanski) Foockle.  He was raised and educated in Spear, IL. and Lubbock, TX.

Terry served with the United States Army during the Korean War. 

Terry married Norma Jean Vlahovich at Visitation Catholic Church in Kewanee, IL on May 1, 1954 and she survives.

Terry was a self-employed milk truck driver for 30 years.  He later was a truck driver for Munson Transportation and DCM Transport before retiring in 2008.  He also worked for Super Wash in Monmouth for 3 years.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Monmouth.  He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Norma Jean; his daughter, Wanda Schreck of Galesburg; son, Robert Foockle of Monmouth; 3 grandsons, Luke (Kalie Duncan) Schreck of Aledo, IL, Clinton Schreck of Chesterton, IN and Travis (Kenzie Weir) Schreck of Monmouth; 5 great grandchildren; brother, Rev. Harry (Donna) Foockle of Kansas City, MO; half-sister, Jackie (Walter) Hampton of The Colony, TX; half-brothers, Jerry Bailey of St. Augustine, IL, Duane Bailey of Santa Clarita, CA and Kenneth Bailey of Sunnyvale, CA; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Henry Anton Chesko

Mr. Henry Anton Chesko, 94, of Knoxville, Illinois died at 11:35 am Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Knox County Nursing Home.

He was born February 6, 1922 in Riga, Latvia, the son of Walter and Else Chesko and immigrated with his parents to the United States as a very young child. Henry became a naturalized citizen in 1930. He was preceded in death by his parents.

In 1951 he married Nova G. Specht of Galesburg and they later divorced. In 1971 he married Ruth Ann Howarter in Galesburg and she preceded him in death on April 4, 1994.

He is survived by two daughters, Kathleen Chesko (husband Russell Steinbach) and Susan Kurfman, and two sons; David Chesko (wife Janet) and Markus Chesko. He is also survived by four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Henry retired as an Engineer from Burlington Northern Railroad in 1982. He was also a self-employed mechanic, operating two separate auto repair shops in the Galesburg area.

Henry belonged to the Galesburg Radio Control Modelers Club and the National Academy of Model Aeronautics. He was a licensed pilot for many years and commissioned as a 1st Lieutenant and pilot with the Civil Air Patrol. Henry was also a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association.

Henry was a lifetime member of the Alpha Lodge #155 of the Masonic Order, celebrating more than 50 years as a Mason. He was a past member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers Union; an active member of the Chapter 1267 of AARP; volunteered as Boy Scout Troop Leader and the YMCA.

Henry joined the Galesburg First Church of God in 1960 and remained an active member and volunteer “handy man” until declining health limited his activities.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:30 am Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Dennis McQuown will officiate. Diane K. Johnson

Diane K. “Mouth” Johnson, 64, of Kirkwood, IL, passed away at 6:07 p.m., Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Unity Point Health Methodist Hospital, Peoria, IL.

She was born January 21, 1952 in Rock Island, IL the daughter of Harold and Donna (Ubben) Brighton.  She was raised and educated in Chicago Heights, IL.

Diane married Bradley Johnson in Kirkwood, IL on January 31, 1970 and he survives.

Diane worked at the Super America Gas Station in Monmouth for many years.  She later worked for Advance America in Galesburg and most recently the Ayerco Station in Monmouth.  Diane loved to go shopping, and enjoyed reading.  She was known for her sassy outgoing personality.  Most of all, Diane loved to spend time with her family and friends. 

Surviving Diane is her husband, Brad Johnson of Kirkwood, two daughters; Teresa (Chad) Parrish of Gladstone, IL, Shannon (Phil) Davis of Douds, IA, one son Bradley “BJ” Johnson of Kirkwood, grandchildren; Emily, Marissa, Abby, Ceyda, Kenan, and Iva.  Also surviving is one great grandson Brayden “Duke”, and special friends; Robin Lybarger and Penny Stephenson. 

She was preceded in death by her grandmother Iva Ubben, who was a very special influence in her life, her parents, and one brother.
